After forming in early 2004, Tourmaline propelled their way into the NJ music scene winning over fans one show at a time and quickly gaining the attention of No Milk/Universal Records. A year after formation, Tourmaline released their debut record through No Milk/Universal to critical claim. Due to persistent touring, college radio play and the support of many online media outlets, Tourmalines base was growing exponentially.
In September 06, Tourmaline were set to record to there follow up to ‘Strange Distress Calls’ with producer Lou Giordano, until doctors discovered singer Matt Rauch had developed a cyst on one of his vocal chords. Tourmaline was forced to put everything on hold what ended up being a year. In the course of a year, Tourmaline separated from their label as well as was forced to find a new bassist.
Finally, Tourmaline was ready to record a follow up in the spring of 08. They recruited Grammy winning Producer Joe McGrath (Ryan Adams, Morrissey) to man the boards. The result was “a record that just might be 2008's most creative, most varied and most cohesive piece of art.” – Absolutepunk.net.
For the release of the record Tourmaline put together a successful guerilla marketing campaign, which involved mysterious mails and poster hangs directing people to a cryptic Wheredidrocknrollgo.com site. The campaign was able to generate 1,000,000 hits to the website in just three weeks. This, accompanied by there New York City street tour protesting gas prices, the band has seemed to be thrusted back into the underground spotlight. Back with and even more powerful album and a singer with an even stronger voice, it looks like Tourmaline might be back to finally finish what they started.
