Bio

Residing in North Texas for the last thirteen years, recording artist Tioga Dan Sloane has become known as a "guitar-slinger extraordinaire". Being the second most famous musician to come out of Tioga Texas, Dan admits it would take some doing to surpass Tioga's favorite son- Gene Autry. Having gained a second wind after a fifteen year hiatus to raise his family, Tioga Dan is hitting the streets with a renewed energy and interest in bringing his particularly inspiring guitar genius to some new material. He has been compared to many guitar greats such as Walsh, Clapton, Beck and Morse. With plenty of life experience tucked under his belt, as Eddie Wilson of the Cruisers said,Tioga Dan has "something to say, not just something to show"!

In the words of Eddie Wilson “you gotta have something to say not just something to show”. DAN SLOANE HAS BEEN ACCUSED OF BEING "INSANELY ACCURATE" WITH HIS GUITAR PHRASING, COMPOSITION AND LYRICAL CONTENT. SOME OTHER COMMENTS:

"world class guitar"- Southwest Recording Studio

"I never tire of listening. Everytime I hear something new" - Kent Martin, SRO Productions and former agent for Billy Ray Cyrus.

"great hooks" - Chris Keaton, Chris Keaton Productions, formerly Markee Music

"i need help to escape the wasteland of musical obscurity. i had a power trio. we originally decided to do mostly instrumentals ala jeff beck, mahavishnu orchestra, dixie dregs. some of that is still in evidence but over time i wanted to be able to say more things to more people. i dropped out of the north texas jazz studies graduate program in 1987 to marry the best person i know. we planned for me to go back but the longer i was away, the more apparent one fact became. a degree in jazz is like a degree in baseball. if you can play it, it doesn't matter. if you can't play it, it doesn't matter. in the words of little big man, "that was the end of my academic period". we started the album CALM BEFORE THE STORM in 1992. my dad died in december 1992. i was still grieving when in March of '93 i was bitten by an infected animal and nearly died. at least that's what they told me. i was very sick for fourteen months. i recovered somewhat, but it was a little like being a zombie. we finished the album in late 1995 with the title cut CALM BEFORE THE STORM about a coming attack and the aftermath. It was published in early 1996 by a small firm in nashville called markee music. at the same time, in an attempt to improve my health, i pulled a doc holiday and we moved to texas. markee shopped the album for a year but got no takers. i eventually became too sick to play music and dropped out of the scene altogether. i managed to go day to day but that was about it. then, in 2003, i had a relapse and was pronounced terminal. but then- a miracle happened. in 2005. my wife found a nutritional product that's made in the dallas area and i began to take it everyday. my recovery was remarkable. by 2007 i had completely recovered from my 13 year illness, and a wonderful thing had happened. i could play again! i mean really play!! i have been on a "binge", as my friend milton swing (a great player) used to say, ever since. i attempt to make every sound, every word, every note, and every nuance mean something. most of what i know about phrasing i learned from eric clapton and joe walsh. we used to have a saying-"if you can't play slow, you can't play." i was first published in 1983 with a local hit called sittin' in roanoke. again in 1996 by markee music. i have two degrees in music-one is in composition 1986 the other in music ed 1988. i did grad studies at north texas in jazz program but dropped out to marry mylovely wife janet (22 years in august). the songs currently on the site address concerns which have since manifested. i believe the message of some of my songs (CALM BEFORE THE STORM, THE PROPHETS HAVE SPOKEN, I'M SO TIRED, ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL) is applicable to our current time and crisis. with my phoenix-like, new-found energy, i have a new album in the works. i am finally ready to take my music to the world. i think i have something to say, not just something to show and i'm grateful i've been given the chance. new tracks and video coming to myspace soon".
