Third-rate was originally started by Will Kearney, Jeff Berger, and Jeremy Lu in 2007. The then freshmen played a couple times at their highschool accompanied by singer Chris Beard and Guitarist Jason Altman.
The line-up was finalized in 2009 with the introduction of singer AJ Yost and guitarist Jon Walker into the band.
