The Wise Guys
The Wise Guys The humid Deep South was not only home to one of the earliest mob families in the country but boasted two of the most powerful bosses in the history of crime. Between the crews in Tampa, New Orleans, and the small outpost in Dallas, the Mafia controlled illegal gambling, moonshine production, and other unsavory affairs. These crime groups were small, but their influence in world affairs was enormous, including the alleged involvement of all three families in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. In January of 1919 the Eighteenth Amendment, better known as Prohibition, was ratified. America's experiment with Prohibition opened the door for the Mafia to make a bundle in the trafficking of illegal booze. This was the catalyst for the mob to move up the ladder on the American crime scene, and for the big city bosses of Chicago, New Orleans, and New York to start expanding to new areas. With bars and saloons being shut down, the rise of "speakeasies" was in the works. Of course, these had to be supplied with alcohol from somewhere, and who better to do it, than the mob. As the mob moved its "soldiers" into new territories, crime rates for these areas went through the roof. The mobsters in Houston started an inner city war, which quickly spread to outlying areas in an attempt to gain majority control of the area and to push out the lesser mobsters. After several months of bickering and small hit and run jobs, two families remained worthy of taking the majority shares of the city. The Mokkarrani Family, being from the area, looked to be in the best position to take command, but the Marcello Family from an area just to the North West was doing everything they could to interupt that idea. Who will reign supreme between the two biggest "Wise Guys" fighting over the Houston area? And how will they deal with the coppers patroling the city? Buy them off, or just eliminate them?
