ABOUT//THE VENTING MACHINE//

The Venting Machine hails from the Underground Metal music scene in the Northern regions of California. Having formed in late 1998 (originally under the name Breach) these four regular, dedicated and sometimes overly silly individuals, definitely have something serious to say in their thrash-rooted brand of metal music. All of the expected elements of a truly talented metal band are easily audible and are in monstrous display. Image and stage presence are important to the band but take a back seat to performance and clarity. The band has never followed any trends or created music for anyone but themselves. This is solely responsible for their friendship outside the band and their longevity in the scene. Most of TVM have been close friends since the early 90's and grew up around music in their families. The band was drawn together by similar influences such as Megadeth, Prong, Sepultura, Pantera, and early Metallica. In 1998 the four members began to write and record their first original songs and once the band had enough material to perform, they immediately hit the local club circuit. Between 1998 and 2003, the band performed hundreds of live shows all throughout California and by the time 2004 had come, The Venting Machine had built a solid reputation and successfully carved their own metallic niche in the Nor-Cal underground metal scene. In July of that same year, the band independently produced and released a twelve-song demo titled "Diablo Demo". Selling over 300 units in the first two weeks, "Diablo" received rave reviews from webzines, garageband.com, and local radio stations all over the world. It had also earned the band several awards and a few opening slots for national acts like Chimaira, Systematic, All Shall Perish, Black Label Society, and Crematorium.

Riding the winds of Diablo's local success, the band re-entered the studio in 2006 to produce what was expected to be their finest effort to date. "A Death To Your Scene" is a huge step forward in the evolution of this band and is packed with brilliant performances, dazzling musical moments, and straightforward metal. The speed, technicality, musicianship, and diversity are in beautiful display within each song. "A.D.T.Y.S" also offers a much more mature and intense musical pallet as compared to Diablo. With this new effort the bands seems to be more focused than ever and at the end of the day, The Venting Machine enjoys being free to perform and do what they want musically, and lyrically. Its is a valuable therapeutical outlet for this band, a chance to live the dream...full steam ahead

A Note About the New Vocalist of TVM: In November of 2007, TVM performed it's last show with Josh Hoover. This was a difficult decision for both the Band and Mr. Hoover to come to. In the years that he performed with TVM, Josh left an indelible mark upon the Band and it's audience with his presence and style. He will be missed. The Band believed that finding a suitable replacement for Mr. Hoover would prove to be a daunting task, but as luck would have it, a replacement was found in the talents of Adam Raffety, former vocalist of the bands Sickle and Beyond Years. Mr. Raffety was inducted into TVM in January of 2008. For more info on this subject, please visit our blog.

STUDIO NOTES FOR "A DEATH TO YOUR SCENE" ADTYS was recorded in Modesto CA in a house converted into a studio from late 2005 to early 2006. We had eleven songs to record that were fine tuned and ready. The songs were a lot more involved and complicated than what we had written before. We wanted a powerful, punchy, tight sound and this time I think we all knew we could capture our sound in a much better way while throwing out any creative restrictions. This mind set allowed us to have fun with each song and in the end we captured some of our best performances to date. The equipment we used was an Alesis HD-24 hard disk ADAT, and a Mackie 32 channel mixer. There were no computers involved in the process so what you hear is what was played. We used live mics and triggers to get the drum tones, which is something we had never tried before but had good luck with. For Bass we ran a Tobias through a Sans Amp Bass D.I. and from there into a dBX tube pre-amp. We did something clever with the bass by going out of the preamp straight into the hard disk, then out to the board. This allowed us to instantly monitor the tracks we were laying down. For the guitar tracks, we used the Line6 Pod XT. That along with my Gibson's and Dean's are what make the guitar tones for the whole album. The acoustic track "Jacqueline" was recorded with a 12 string Martin and backed by a line 6 Variax vocals, we used and Audio Technica 4050 condenser mic through the dBX pre. Josh doubled all his tracks in order to flesh out the sound. We also used some cool effects like the Lo-Fi sound and some weird flange type sounds, we had alot of fun with it. We mixed the record at the Gayzer's studio in San Jose(not open to the public). At Gayzer's, we had many of the worlds best compressors, EQ's and effect processors at our disposal. SSL, Focusrite, Neve, AMS, Eventide, Manley, vintage DBX(check TVM myspace videos).....we were careful not to over do it though, it is a metal record after all. For mastering, we went to our buddy Greg Fender(Sickle/Beyond Years) who in his own right is a master at software recording and programing. Greg put the final touches on the album and from there it went to production.(Note: Original Mix was mastered by Brad Vance @ Red Mastering, but industry feedback was that the album sounded too compressed and the mix was jaded. The band shaped this constructive criticism into what is now technically, the second mix of A Death To Your Scene.
