About
The Strip
After 5 years of travelling just under the radar, Parkdale Gypsy-Folk-Rockers The Strip are finally attracting the attention they deserve with the release of their debut full-length album, “Stick To Your Guns.” Produced by Juno-nominee John MacLean, (Mr. Something Something) the 11 track disc is a rich, cohesive offering which clearly reflects that this talented quartet have taken the advice found in their own album title.
Two years ago, the front-line members of the group left their day jobs and auditioned successfully to a rapt panel of judges at the Canadian National Exhibition for the illusive ‘TTC Busking Permit’. Kevin Robinson and Darrin Davis subsequently spent the next year honing their craft underground every day in the théâtre-réalité of the Toronto Subway system. Their sound caught the favour of everyone from stroller-strapped 2 year olds to octogenarian hipsters; from friendly subterranean-dwelling derelicts to Bay-street financiers.
Fusing an experimental yet accessible interest in jazz, alt-country, folk and rock into what’s been described by well-known Toronto concert promoter & publicist Richard Flohil as a verve “brimming with promise that will undoubtedly be fulfilled.”
Clocking close to 100 shows each year in Toronto venues including The Opera House, The Dakota Tavern, The Horseshoe, and a sold-out album launch party at The Supermarket, The Strip also enjoyed a 3 month residency at The Gladstone Hotel, and a two-year house-band slot at Annex hot-spot, The Labyrinth Lounge. They took their show on the road in October 2008 for a successful month-long Western Canadian tour to Vancouver and back. The Strip will be touring extensively in support of “Stick To Your Guns” in the Spring of 2010.
