THIS IS A FAIRLY DIVERSE COLLECTION OF SONGS. THERE'S LIGHT AND HARD ALTERNATIVE ROCK, ALTERNATIVE RAP, ALTERNATIVE FOLK AND A HINT OF COUNTRY.

The Replacement System is a band that exists in a book. The book is in the process of completion but it will be available some day. For now I have a few songs that can be downloaded for free so if any suit you please feel free to help yourself. For the Political/Moral minded I'd recommend THIS IS WAR, ROOM 101, DICK AND BUSH, BALLAD OF BOEING AND LOCKHEED MARTIN and HIPPIE IN A SUV. For the truth seekers of Spirituality check out GOD, GOSPEL ACCORDING TO STEVE, JEDI'S WAKE UP, HEAVEN AND HELL and A LIFE THAT DEFINES ME. For people who see the End of the World as we Know It as a real possibility listen to BEOWULF, PRIMATIVE WASTELAND, THE CHANGELING, KUBLAH KHAN and BRAVE NEW WORLD. For those who relate to the Abnormal World of the Psyche try BATMAN, ELECTRIC CHURCH, ENDROAD, FACELESS MAN and BEING HUMAN.

If you are interested in reading the book SIR JANE AND THE REPLACEMENT SYSTEM join the mailing list through the fan collector thingy... Have a nice day!

Below is a brief description of each song within it's respective album...

 PARADIGM SHIFT

Paradigm- The generally accepted perspective of a particular ideology at a given time...       Shift- The act of changing one thing or position for another

1 Strings- Sir Jane realized that the world could end because it was pretty messed up. She learned that the world was an illusion and the people living in it were under control. 2 DNA Trap- One form of control was religion. Whether people were Christian, Muslim or Atheist- they tended to attack people outside of their own religious frameworks.3 God in a Box- Hypocrisy was woven into laws prolonging the ignorance of the dominant mindset of the times. A mindset that still created a notion of 2nd rate citizens. 4 Campfire Song- Sir Jane was changed from this knowledge and began to view religion in it's most primitive form- the life and words of the actual Godhead- the Buddha. the Christ.5 Pretty People- She related to them, looking around at her own world, witnessing the simple minded unfairness that dictated people's worth in her day and age. 6 The Scene- This unfairness wasn't simply forced upon her peers- it was celebrated by them. Men vs Women, Black vs White, Old vs Young, Gay vs Straight, Rich vs Poor. 7 Try Not To Kill Your Friends- These prejudices created an air of hostility and isolation which broke into violence often. The violence was accepted, even through the religions that were supposed to condemn it, because people were bound by fear and hate.8 Hippie Gangsta- She knew of only one way to combat this mindset and that was to treat other people as good as she could regardless of their differences- and she knew she could do this because she knew she was eternal. Death didn't matter.9 Sam Walton's Kids- She began to battle the false Gods of the hypocrites and their symbols of wealth and power . She knew that ALL people's needs had to be met before equality could sink in.10 A Vine Must Grow- Sir Jane knew that love was unpopular. Romance, sex and security were twisted by gender stereotypes and materialism. These powerful strings held people easily.11 Ashes and Dust- She realized that all she could do was live her life according to how she believed, in her truest sense, even if she had to sacrifice everything to find it. She left the grid...12 27 Song- Xtra song- the story of Janice Hendrix and Jim Cobain.

ELECTRIC CHURCH        album of The Replacement System

This album of songs is called the Electric Church album. They are all just acoustic guitar and vocals. Here's a little information about them.

1-You and Me- about my soul mate and the things we do. Following balloons, skateboarding, driving around the country, quitting cigarettes and generally trying to enjoy life outside the boundaries of regular society.

2-A life that defines me- Modern culture shock(Eminem, Tiger Woods, Police state mentality, white heterosexual guilt, war for profit...) and my answer to dealing with these new issues is free spirituality and discernment.

3-The lonliness doesn't need you either- a couple stories about isolation and the need for companionship. We are all fragile creatures.

4-Plastic and Nails- Being afraid of this brave new world leaning as usual into a vortex of hypocrisy but also seeing great potential arriving with some youth. Loosely tied into the novel Sir Jane and the Replacement System.

5-Patriot Changes- The word patriot first described American revolutionaries and then it evolved into the name for smart missles(patriot missles) and now it's the name used to hide the destruction of our constitution.

6-Animal Farm- How the Democrats turned into the Republicans...

7-The Spinner- The Spinner is a person hired to shift public opinion through a variety of ways. Manipulation of facts, being a good talker, finding the gray areas...etc.

8-God- The ultimate hypocrisy is claiming God to be on your side and failing to recognize God with everyone else. This song is a sermon to correct that misconception.

9-Creature- another soul mate song.

10-Friendly You- Some people learn their place when they never should have. They become copesetic and accepting of the ways they are mistreated until they take a stand.

11-Kubla Khan- a song about a scary future and a warning not to take the easy way out. "For he on honeydew hath fed and drunk the milk of paradise" was borrowed from the original poem Kubla Khan.

12-Electric Church- based on Jimi Hendrix's vision. Its about the struggle to dream up a better world or maybe just the struggle to survive this one.

TO SERVE MAN            album of The Replacement System

TO SERVE MAN is the next album of songs begining with  Howl and ending with It's no surprise that most drunks go to Heaven. The title of the album borrows from a Twilight Zone episode and suggests that many of those who claim to serve us may be serving us in a way that best suits their tastes.

1-Howl- A modern rant in the spirit of the original poem by Allen Ginsberg. "The best minds of my generation" was borrowed from the original poem "Howl".

2-Welcome to Religion- Religion to me is the corporatization of spiritual beliefs. I think it underminds everything the spiritual masters were trying to do and breeds fear and hate.

3-Jesus leash in Wonderland- Breaking tabboos while explaining beliefs, Jesus Leash is about God being inside us acting as our conscience as we travel through a world of temptations and the irony of our morality when in the dream state.

4-Hippie in a SUV- touches upon brainwashing, racism, 1984, immigration, prison reform, technology, violence at home and abroad, The American mindset, and finally the current perception of God and how I view myself in general.

5-Ballad of Boeing and Lockheed Martin- is about weapons manufacturers starting war to stay in business. It's a conversation between the 2 warheads.

6-333(The Quantum Field)- Everything is formed from the same basic building blocks whether you are a living thing or not. Patterns account for the differences. All of the patterns make up the mystery of life but following these patterns can drive you crazy.

7-Fell asleep to Darkside again- I fell asleep listening to Darkside of the Moon one night and had an apocalyptic nightmare. This song's about that and the ingrained lunacy of Pink Floyd.

8-Country Song squared- "Squared as in the mathmatical function." This is a new agey feminist country song protesting the ignorance of the status quo.

9-Lorraine's Affair- a song about a woman cheating on her significant other but she's not cheating on him with anybody else- she's doing it all by herself.

10-House of the Loaded Gun- alternate lyrics to the "House of the Rising Sun" classic. This song aint about New Orleans- it's about Washington DC.

11-Jail is looking better every day- inspired by the true story of a guy who held up a bank for the sole purpose of going to jail. It tackles big business, homophobia, immigrant working conditions, Bush and Cheney, anti-vegetarianism...etc.

12-Businessman falling on Cedars- A power hungry, arrogant business man has a mid life crisis.

13-Hollywood's an Idiot- Calling Hollywood what it really is to it's face.

14-Jedis Wake Up- Disillusioned youth, Eisenhower vs the military complex, the misuse of power by White America and a plea to the heros who are still asleep.

15-The lizard in my skin- a song about growing old.

16- Now its no surprise that most drunks go to heaven- the first verse is about a homeless guy who raised cats before the authorities got rid of them. I see him on my way to work each morning. The rest of it's about drinking the pain away.

AMERICAN DREAMS                     album of The Replacement System

American Dreams is an acoustic album for the most part. About half the songs make use of bass, drums, back up vocals and extra guitars. Here's some info about it...

1-Transamerican Dream- deals with celebrity worship, big business and government conspiracies like Enron, Jesus used for war, dead heads, global warming and gun control, discrimination against gay people, social conditioning and string theory(the next link after quantum physics)

2-Paycheck- 30 second ditty about control and illusions.

3-21st Century American- about our current mindset in America. Olsen twins, war for profit, gluttony and depression, misuse of medication, our John Wayne as Jesus Christ theology, realizing I am a hypocrite myself.

4-Barbie- a story inspired by a trend in the upper class(buying your daughter a boob job in preparation for college) It covers the objectization of women including self objectization and its effects on one's developing perception of other people, date rape, male biased court systems and brainwashing.

5-Gospel according to Steve- story about the friendship of Jesus and Buddha. What happened after they dropped out of high school together.

6-Faces of the storm- This one was spontaneously written and recorded at the same time in one take. It's mostly about learning how untrustworthy authority figures are and struggling through that state of apathy and anarchy. The end of the song seems to express a hope in strange people.

7-Even Nazis cry inside sometimes- points out irony in regular life. Serial killers, Hitler, thug life brotherhood, high school caste systems, Wallmart, the pride in war...etc.

8-Women are Sold- a reminder that women are still viewed as sex toys and what one young woman did about it.

9-Paycheck 2- 30 second ditty about our increasingly plastic culture.

10-Grey Tattoo- a perception of life under that long black cloud that looms overhead.

11-Huddie- This one was spontaneously written and recorded at the same time in one take. I was trying to channel the spirit of Huddie Ledbetter in my own way.

12-Dear Joan- This is an imaginary conversation William Burroughs is having with his wife Joan. I imagined Joan not being there and Bill talking to her anyway.

13-Ebony Shaman- this is a song about a couple of street shamans, one being much more advanced than the other and the trip they take together.

14-Papa Free Love- it says trust your partner, don't take Hollywood seriously then tells the story of a dead writer.

15-Spy vs Spy- a modern love story between a bounty hunter and an assassin

THE MAN                     album of The Replacement System

The Man is an album about individual and social oppression. The message is that "The Man" is a mindset within us all that will destroy us if we don't evolve from it. This album turns up the distortion a bit. Here's a run through of the songs...

1-Intro- 30 second consumer minded intro.

2-Dorian Intro- Dorian as in Dorian Gray from the Oscar Wilde story. Dorian was a guy who looked good no matter how bad he was...until it finally caught up with him.

3-Room 101- inspired by the 1984 concept originally conceived by George Orwell. In this case room 101 is being a slave your whole life to a job you don't care about until you are officially retired, replaced and left to die. The escape from this is detaching from society and living simply.

4-Dick and Bush- this song's about America getting screwed by the Bush administration. It covers 9-11 and sheds some past on the present.

5-I'm So White- the realization of inequality in America today and the white guilt that comes with that awareness. Summer did the chorus vocals on this one. The resurrection of Jim Crowe through prison, temp labor and government oppression.

6-Death of the Man- this song's about slave labor and our refusal to look at how our own consumerism enables people to be mistreated. Nike, Abecrombie and Fitch...etc.

7-Academia- a crazy homeless guy hurried past my front porch one day yelling this out. It made an impression, "Academia, what have you done?!"

8-This is War- loosely based on the rape and killing of an Iraqi girl. It was in the papers for awhile. This is very graphic but it has a happier ending.

9-The bomb- Not a song, just somebody saying that the guys who worked on the science end of the atomic bomb were horrified that it was ever dropped.

10-Vietnam Man- Teardrop and Hawkeye were homeless vets I met while hitchhiking through Key West. This is for the hundreds of vets I've met on the streets.

11-Avenue- This one was spontaneously written and recorded at the same time in one take. I think it's about breaking free from "The Man".

12-Mr. Machinegun- a short story of a guy who traded in his gun for a pen.

13-Poor Boy- How it feels to be poor and discriminated against because of it.

BEING HUMAN                  album of The Replacement System

Being Human is an album about what it's like to be a human being. A lot of these songs have drums, bass, extra guitars and vocals. Here's a summary of what's inside this particular body...

1-One Year- Our bodies are space suits. It takes about a year to fit into them and another 15 to 20 years to get used to them. They generally break down within a century and maybe then we'll have some real clue as to why we came here. We are machines in this place, biological in structure, but still machines... in this place.

2-Hollywood Eyes- based on a girl I knew at college and another girl I didn't know after I dropped out. The song is about their psychology and I guess mine also at the time.

3-The Track- Spontaneously written and recorded at the same time in one take. It has something to do with feeling alive.

4-Heaven and Hell- This song's about growing older, becoming more complacent and less powerful. At the same time it's about searching for the right path.

5-A Little Life- Life is difficult. Sometimes it's so difficult people don't live- they just pretend to...until their space suit falls apart.

6-Good People- Just because you've done bad things... doesn't make you a bad person.

7-Name- Spontaneously written and recorded at the same time in one take. It's just about being human with an unhuman twist at the end.

8-The Bridge- It's about improving your life through the use of mental pain. Mental pain is struggling over your desires and attachments as well as trying to empathize with others. The song is also about having faith in one's mate.

9-Friend- Spontaneously written and recorded at the same time in one take. Friendship.

10-Blanket Box- Concern for family and friends as well as spiritual development.

11-Diabetic Song- when I was hitching through Roanoke, Virginia, I met a kid who had recently jumped headfirst off a balcony cause he felt bad about his sister's death. Her boyfriend had locked her in a room while she was having a diabetic attack. I don't have a son although the chorus is thinking about one.

12-Lucky to Have You- I wrote this from the perspective of a teenager I knew in Columbia, MD. It's about being grateful for people.

13-Hey Hey Hey- It's a conversation with God...or the Godhead, Great Spirit, higher power...etc.

14-Wisdom- Albert Einstein, Martin Luther King, Jesus Christ, Gandhi, Mother Theresa and what I learned from them

DSM4                     Album of THe Replacement System

DSM4 was named for the manual psychologists use to diagnose mental illness.

Diagnostic Statistics Manual 4th Edition.

This is an album of that dark chasm we call the psyche...

1- Soul Pollution- regressing back to the state of having belief in an angry God and struggling to transcend that belief.

2-Faceless Man- Spontaneously written and recorded at the same time in one take. I think it's about gaining an identity.

3-Batman- a story of a man who dressed up like batman and rid the city of crime only to be undone by the people he protected.

4-Garden Walk- a short spacey tune about growing up with odd thoughts.

5-Being Human- I wrote this to Kurt Cobain a few years after his death. It congratulates him for his artistry but then suggests ways he could have avoided suicide. It's about finding your way through a somewhat twisted world.

6-Leroy- Spontaneously written and recorded at the same time in one take. It's the story of somebody who's struggling.

7-Witch- It's the short story of a witch getting burned at the stake. Back during the witch trials there's a theory that many people were unwittingly ingesting grains with hallucinogenic properties, which is why people were dancing around naked and other people thought the devil was behind all that.

8-My Lovely Daughter- A short proclamation from a father to a daughter.

9-Hours excerpt 2- This is a clip pasted together from "The Hours" movie. Alternate psychology.

10-Jane's Dimension- this is the story of a girl who has such a horrible life that she masters the art of dreaming awake.

11-Jack- Talking to a friend about the journey and struggle of life.

12-Fearhead- Spontaneously written and recorded at the same time in one take.

13-Razors Stand Still- Spontaneously written and recorded at the same time in one take. The subconscious mind or a personality from another dimension trying to consol someone who was tortured or perhaps someone who's in a bad place.

14-Endroad- A very trippy look into that dark chasm.

15-Swollenlands- Spontaneously written and recorded at the same time in one take. The swollen lands might an ocean of consciousness, a realm of mixed probabilities. Non solidified abstract thought.

16-The Stranger- The stranger is the shadow part of a person, the dark side.

17-the Enemy- The enemy is within as well as the hero. This song is about accepting that.

18-2 Days- a song about change.

19-Hours Excerpt 1- another clip borrowed from "The Hours" movie. The struggle.

20-Sweet Georgia Jane- the hero reborn, attached to the unknown through faith.
