“Vegas is hot. Coming right off the plane from Seattle, I’m sweating like a pig, drinking my Starbucks while staring at suburban moms running around with their Gucci handbags and aviator sunglasses. For years, this was the image I had of Vegas: contrived, trivial glam. But Vegas has started to change for the better. An indie band scene has developed and has started to finally gain some head ground. Fremont Street–the original Vegas downtown that had become known for its shadiness and its safety concerns–has revitalized itself into a new, hip cultural center where art and music thrive. It’s a whole new desert experience. At the center of it all is The Pax Trend. The quartet, consisting of Charlie Arnold (lead vocals, guitar, and lyrics), Geovany Uranda (bass and lyrics), Juan Escobar (guitar), Giuliano Lopez (drums), have quite the band dynamic. I had the chance to interview them and pick their mind on their process and the growing indie music scene in Vegas.”
