About

A fascination with the extremes of human nature combined with a common hunger to create a unique 21st Century rock & roll sound kickstarted Cassady Maddox, Dereck Cannon and Nikki Ponymeadow into action in the mid 2000's, when the three singer/songwriters decided to pool their collective interests and hang-ups - and became The Mansons.

This Halloween (Saturday October 31st 20069) The Mansons were joined by dear friends Simon Day (vocals) and Julian Hernandez (drums) at the Factory Theatre for the All Hallows' Eve Ball (also featuring The Art, Chaingang, Horrorwood Mannequins, Juke Baritone and the Swamp Dogs and GPKISM) presented by the Under The Blue Moon Festival.

The Mansons are currently producing their own album, with producers Kramer (Bridezilla, Leader Cheetah), and Andrew Beck (Modular Lounge, Josh Abrahams/Amiel, The Mansons' "Blood Love and Rhetoric" EP) on board to mix. The new record notably features a song-writing collaboration between Maddox and Ratcat's Simon Day, and they sing frenzied, alt-country duet "This Day Forward" together. Maintaining the rock'n'roll spirit of their early recordings, The Mansons have evolved their sound to incorporate elements of the electro world, adding drum machine and electronic drums to their arsenal on "Maniac Mansion", The Kills-inspired "Cannibal Magnetism" and "With Love, From Outta Space", while the swinging time signatures of "Revelations" and "Treats or The Cardinal" show the band embracing an even more epic sound and style.

An explosive mix of classic melody and harmony, futuristic guitars and a monstrous rhythm section, the new material is at once catchy and cathartic, and is due for release in early 2010. Stay tuned for digital single releases preceding the album launch.

The Mansons' debut EP Blood, Love & Rhetoric was recorded with Andrew Beck at Damien Gerard Studios and limited copies are available to purchase from Repressed Records in Newtown. Nic Dalton of Half A Cow Records reviewed the release as CD of the month in October 2008: "They take turns singing the dark, fuzzed up rockers with lyrics that are both gloomy and uplifting at the same time. Then there's the very poppy 'Unmanned Canyon' just to show that they can slip a bubblegum-coloured dress on as well as the black leather... Maybe it's because the songs have such strong melodies and the arrangements are full of the right sort of riffs that make me think these guys have got something special going on... As good as these recordings are – and they rock! – I reckon it's up on stage that the Mansons would definitely impress. I can visualise the opening track 'Never Help Anyone' live and can see the fans going mental until hometime."

The Mansons have enjoyed some unusual shows, playing at the Annandale's Ms Rock & Roll pageant alongside Rocket Science and The Shake Up, tackling a full set of Pixies songs for Shake That Noise's tribute nights at the eXcelsior Hotel, and performing an intimate set at the infamous Mu-Meson Archives of the acoustic folk songs written by Charles Manson. The Mansons have been praised for their stripped back radio performances, leading FBi's Naked City host Jay Katz to proclaim them "one of the most important bands in Australia, maybe in the world".

The Mansons look forward to broadcasting to their audience via radio, internet, television and intergalactic transmission.
