Graham Colton - Alexander Webb Saturday 11/08/2014 7:00 PM |21+ Nearly five years since his break with major label Universal Music -- a relationship that spanned four years, two albums and saw Graham Colton perform on The Tonight Show, The Late Show, debut videos on TRL and more Coltons new album Lonely Ones marks a huge leap forward, seeing him move away from his singer-songwriter past and into an entirely different direction. After reconnecting with himself as an artist outside the world of major label influence, Colton began collaborating with good friend and fellow Oklahoma City musician Wayne Coyne and The Flaming Lips. Coyne inspired him to experiment and change the way he looked at the songwriting process. Wayne loaned me some keyboards and told me to push buttons and songs would appear, said Colton. And they did! It's amazing what happened when I put the guitar down. Colton holed up at Blackwatch Studios in Norman, OK with producers/ bandmates Chad Copelin & Jarod Evans for 18 months to write and record the album. They enlisted Steven Drozd (Flaming Lips) to aide in the early recordings and offer new textures and sounds that Colton wouldn't otherwise use. The result is ten tracks of lush indie/psych pop gems, each with its own interesting twist. Playful touches like handclaps and la-la-las accent ear-wormy melodies. As the follow-up to 2010s Pacific Coast Eyes and 2008s Twenty Something EP, Lonely Ones shows not just growth but almost complete reinvention an exciting move for an artist who has already seen his share of commercial success.

LOCAL EVENT LISTING: www.facebook.com/events/329348663891994/ Askultura: a rumba + punk rock + ska band from the sunny shores of Miami, Florida comprised of 9 globally-sourced, handsome devils. These are Incans demigods aka Peruvians on horns and keys, lasagna-slammers aka Italians on guitars and vocals, a French frog on bass, hardline Colombian on congas and percussion, a masked luchador named El Pollo Electriko shredding lead guitar, a svelte Cuban on trumpet, a super-sized American Okie on washboard, and an Ohioan on drums. They roll around in your childhood memory: a full-size 40ft yellow school bus with an aching desire to tour 24/7/365/3.14/666. The show gets crazy and it's probably better than any show you've seen before. On June 12, 2014 they, the aforementioned Askultura, released our 3rd cd in 4.352 years (do the math), called I.N.F.E.R.N.O. and it's stacked with futbol hooligan songs, rephrasings of Aesops fables, and ska punk anthems for immigrants, zen buddhists, blues enthusiasts, and illuminated self-medicators. Explore the real-deal, professional website <www.askultura.com> and their daily presence on all the various social media outlets that the Interwebs has to offer. Mission Statement: To spread the party gospel of energia positiva & symphonic rumba punk elements to all curves of the galaxy. To exercise the spirit of the streets on stage. To hang with good people in every town Askultura is lucky enough to pass through. To incite moments of brief rebellion while leaving a lasting aftertaste for change.
