About

Faster than feck punk band from Belfast, Northern Ireland. ''Serving up raw catchy hardcore punk that still manages to keep it's melodic side and be thrashy from start to finish. That's quite a feat. Where their contemporaries fail at keeping your attention and songs seem to become a blur, the Lobotomies manage to fuse their punk and hardcore influences into a coherent assault leaving their generic counterparts waning. DIY hardcore punk as it was meant to be. With so many shows under their belt they just keep getting better.''

A nice surprise this, I was expecting some third rate sceamy bad punk, but actually The Lobotomies are pretty fucking good, mixing up some thrashy hardcore punk with some nice dashes of hardcore.
All the songs are nice and fast, with vocals and style ranging from melodic to intense and angry, good stuff. At times they remind me of a mixture of the Irish bands that were knocking around in the 90's - Monkhouse, Stomach, etc. - good straight up hardcore punk.
The CD is only a few quid/euro so put yer hand in yer pocket and get a copy!
If I was to sum them up in one sentence - an unboring pennywise!

Split with The Cunts...

Two bands doing the whole old school hardcore punk thing. One, the Lobotomies are a trio from Belfast Northern Ireland who have big mohawks and sing about drinking and politics and such. Nothing special, but not bad at all. They're tight, and seem to have every punk convention down pat. Completely listenable and a band likely to gain a cult local following.

The Cunts are a quintet from somewhere in Britain and also do the old school punk thing. They have a bit more of a polished sound, play a bit slower, and have a singer with a really strong accent. They're not bad either, although I think I prefer the Lobotomies, partly because these guys are lacking a little extra umph. Again, they seem like a band that would gain popularity locally just by playing all the time and putting on a good show.
Bottom Line: Decent British old school punk / hardcore. The locals probably love it.

Split CD, DIY stripped to the bone. Hard, fast and hitting the or points time and time again. Lets start with the Lobotomies; punk. DIY, hardcore with the sound straight from the street, just as it should be. A 8 track of DIY with No Vote Here, D.I.Y Till I Die, Fuck The Divide to name a few, all fast furious well good stuff. The Cunts carry on with the DIY ethic, fast and pumping through their 8 tracks. For me The Cunts are the better of the 2 bands on this release. Both bands sound and have a good DIY ethic, sing and play how they feel, just like daily life. Zero Tolerance strikes home. Both should carry on doing their stuff, play as many gigs as possible in lets say a hard life i.e. struggle to succeed in a pop filled world. Excellent cd, street punk stylee. Hope to catch you guys on my travels.

A split between two bands and that was English The Cunts which I got the record from. Lobotomies is the group which starts the record with 8 songs. They go on really hard in their songs but they forget never the melodies even if they don't show them sometimes. I have heard more musical bands than this but it feels like if they really mean what they say. Raw and really naked sound have they anyway. The headband I got the record from them) is The Cunts....a name which surely touches some people. They also do 8 songs and it's a little bit more traditional punk rock as they play. Two singers which shouts together sounds really cool I think. I could surely say a lot of band but I cannot come up with anyone now... Peter and The Test Tube Babies, Dogshit Sandwich, Business....there you have your references....

The LOBOTOMIES are from Belfast, and that always makes me think of my very favourite Northern Irish band RUNNIN RIOT. And writing this I see that guitarist Kev is wearing a shirt of them in the picture on this press-info I've got here in front of me. Nice one. They've already figured out how to make me like them. But then again, their sound doesn't bear too much resemblance with the aforementioned band. Although there is the obvious Oi! influence coming through here and there we are more talking about the faster kind of street punk along the lines of EXPLOITED or GBH or even the CASUALTIES when it comes to younger bands. Though, as I said, the word Oi! is mentioned a couple of times. Makes me wonder: is that really a proper word at all? Hm, I would like to know actually. I better come to the other band of this split, before this question starts doing my head in. The sound of THE CUNTS is more or less going in the same direction as that of the LOBOTOMIES and they're really doing a great job. Formed from the remains of TDM und THE CONTAINERS, THE CUNTS have been going since 2003 and have shared the stage with the likes of DRONGOS FOR EUROPE, ANGELIC UPSTARTS and the VIBRATORS. The only thing I have to criticize is that their singer calls himself Spiller. Now seriously, you can't do that!! There is only one Spiller. Apart from that: brilliant!

Belfast's The Lobotomies kick off this CD with their hardcore political street punk style with as many old school influences as newer ones, which gives a really hard hitting overall sound of simple melodic ideas over ultra-fast music splattered with "Oi!"s, "whoa"s, gang shouts and screams.  The Production is raw though, and if you're used to the polished sounds of bands like Pennywise and Rise Against you could be disappointed.

The Cunts feel like a definite hark to the past with their slower tempos and almost everything sang/shouted with multiple vocals with strong southern accents and many of their melodies simply following the direction of the chord changes.  Some are some more clever ideas thrown into the mix though, for instance "The Flag" has some great break out bass lines and many of the tracks have cool lead guitar lines over the top.

Both of these bands exhibit a nice slice of punk that will especially appeal to those who are somewhat despondent of the current scene and are looking for some 'real' punk rock.  You know who you are!

A band from Belfast and a gang  from Worcester are sharing an LP and shows us in a way what these areas has to offer in punk today.
Starting with The Lobotomies, they seem to be the youngest band, and they're not as good as they're comrades The Cunts. Their kind of punk sounds almost a bit as it used to do in Sweden in the early and mid 90's, but after a few minutes listening it's obvious that they're big influences are the likes of Anti Flag and Rancid. The production is poor, and that feels kinda strange as you're used to listen to this type of punk with extremely professional production. In short, they deliver young  and angry USA smelling street punk with a touch of KBD at their worst moments. The favourite song is Punk Rock Suicide which has a really good go in the drumming. I think this band would be much better if they tried to develop a sound somewhat of their own.
The Cunts are really much more fun. They have apparently been showered with good reviews and played with bands such as Drongos for Europe and Angelic Upstarts, among others. This is good! With a feel for melody like the early Oi! bands and the tempo and go borrowed from the best hardcore acts under the UK82 banner, The Cunts play engaging and smooth three chord punk where they manage to recycle what many bands done before them and add a personal touch to it Aswell. Check this out!

'No Guts No Glory' is a split CD with 8 tracks each by The Lobotomies and The Cunts. The first 8 tracks on this album are by The Lobotomies who are from Belfast. The band who are skate/street punk influenced were only formed in October 2005 and started gigging a couple of months later. Whilst the material by them off the album could be a lot tighter I thought some of their songs were good and with more gigs they can only improve. Keep at it guys.
The Cunts have been around for 3 years and I've heard stuff by them in the past that I thought was pretty good. Their songs off the album are a lot tighter than The Lobotomies and on the whole I thought the 8 songs by them were excellent. A good band who still have a slight reggae/Ska influence on a couple of their songs they are definitely a band to look out for live.

It's a big honour for me. I don't want to give a point this album because it's so special for me. But if you really want, when I listen to this album, The Lobotomies are like a mix of The Casualties and Anti-Flag. Songs, lyrics remind me of these bands. But if they intensify guitar and bass in their songs it's gonna be perfect. “Enemy” and “Punk Rock Suicide” are my favourite. The other 8 songs are from The Cunts. They're melodic composition reminds me of NOFX songs. 2 vocals used very well in songs. “Hatred” and “Blackmarket” are my favourite from The Cunts. These D.I.Y. bands really needs supporting.
Support D.I.Y. 'till the world comes to an end.

This is the only translation of the review I could find doesn't make proper sense:
This split presents two European punk band. The first of them is the The Lobotomies, from Northern Ireland  that shows 8 songs of punk rock with a Californian Style. Everything with rough half style of be, but well touched and great letter. Followed by English band The Cunts,  that have already travelled beside bands such as Vibrators and Angelic Upstarts. The English group shows a punk rock more in the line of legends as Exploited (old), GBH (old) and Varukers. The engraving is not of the best, but the 8 songs satisfy the fans of UK punk rock 80's. Despite both bands being relatively new, this is the sound that  is going to please the persons that like punk rock of root.

WWW.FFRUK.COM (England)

I really liked this album as it's well Punk as fuck! The first eight tracks come from the Lobotomies who kinda remind of bands like the ´Restarts´. Probably could have done with a tad more guitar and bass coming through in the mix but that shouldn't spoil the enjoyment too much! Check out ´No Vote Here´, ´D.I.Y. ´Til I Die´ and ´Punk Rock Suicide´ as they're their best offerings on here. The Cunts are tad more melodic with some good sing along Punk songs such as ´Backstabber´, ´No Guts, No Glory, ´The Flag´ and ´Zero Tolerance´. Their part of the album I enjoyed more because the mix of their instruments was at an equal level throughout. It's young bands like this that will keep the spirit of D.I.Y. Punk Rock alive so support them. (Punk Shit/Keep Er Lit/EHC)
