to the more urgent second half. On track three, lead guitarist Richard Hickling ably takes over singing duties from dad Mark with a self-penned ode to romance gone wrong, "She Never Loved Me". There's a definite sixties feel here. Everything else was co-written by singer-keyboardist Mark Hickling and bassist Tim Wright and Rich's fresh approach at this point in the proceedings is another deft touch. The EP's closer, "Your Attention", begins innocently enough in waltz tempo until it switches to 4/4 and the distortion kicks in. Out come all the stops for the echo drenched climax and after the song is briefly put into reverse and stops dead in its tracks there's nothing else for it but to start all over again. Don't worry----Off the Rails stands up to repeated listening rather well. I should know.”

the lads from Birmingham had shot their bolt. Not so. Three songs later and you're still on the edge of your seat. Interest doesn't flag for a moment, and not just because the tracks play without a break. Everywhere there are deft touches, such as the tolling bell announcing the shipwreck in the opening song and the accelerando from the playful opening section of track two, "Stay Happy", with lyrics about plasticine kittens and orange-peel shoes,”

Now that I have your attention: Ladykillers alert!
Last night I settled down at the computer and finally did what I'd been planning to do for weeks, but for a variety of reasons the moment was never right. Until last night, that is.
The Ladykillers' EP, Off the Rails, begins in fine style. Indeed, you might think on first hearing that with the opening song, "Captains Calling"----from the initial expectant keyboard chords to the driving main body of the song with its relentless tattoo by drummer Christopher Hickling and compelling lyrics to the bass-heavy climax-----”

“Subject: Hickling Wright, the ladykillers,
Nice! A bit Wonderstuffesque.
Fun and catchy. I challenge anyone to listen to it without toe-tapping at least once.
The CD arrived today. I just gave it a spin. On an initial hearing, most impressive----congratters! It deserves to do well.
Thanks very much for that and for the letter. :-)
See you at the "beach".

“There's no question in the mind of this Californian...the Ladykillers are awesome. I eagerly await the arrival of your EP. It should be here any day now. It seems to have been held up in transit. Most likely the stagecoach broke an axle crossing the Sierra Nevada.

“ Article: Black Country News: Ladykillers to hit States GREAT BARR Big break for unsigned rock band
IT TAKES most bands years to break the US, but an unsigned Great Barr rock group is to air on America's biggest television network after being together a matter of months.
The Ladykillers, better known as Mark Hickling, Dave Cureton, Paul Adams and Mike Lackner, formed in January after three years of touring as a tribute act called Ultimate Madness.
The musicians started laying down tracks of their own material, putting together an album and have spent the last ten months performing on the Birmingham gig scene. But after putting their tracks on the internet, they have started to see a wave of international success and were shocked to receive a letter from ABC.

I LOVED the version of Wonderful on your site. Bernadette is also great. I will have BW listen to these when he is over at my house this weekend. We didn't have a chance to listen last weekend. You guys are cool and it was really great meeting you in the UK. Continued success to you. Best - Jeffrey”

"Absolutely bloody brill! Reminds me of the stuff The Monkees used to get upto!!! Lol"
"Falling Asleep" is yet another great tune, which comes as no surprise. Ladykillers songs are always so cool. "Jingle Melody" and "Bernadette" are particular faves of ours. Keep the music flowing!!!
“Rock-and-fucking-roll! The Stones, The Dolls, The Divinyls (they started out a hard unit) all come to mind while grooving to this scorcher. Lead singer Mark J Hickling is the real deal, rasping out hs declamations with a voice that rages, hurts, exhorts and exemplifies survival. The band is driven – the momentum on thi...s record never flags. These guys must simply obliterate small clubs and play with a fury that could fill a much better space.
What's really impressive about The Ladykillers is that they leaven the hot slabs of molten rock with a few genuine pop-rock songs. They obviously know that they can kick your ass any time they feel like pressing down on the accelerator. This makes for one hell of an band. It's simple, just listen to the diversity of their tracks from the soft edge of 'Benadette' to the rock of 'Falling asleep' it makes this band a must see !
