Bio
The Humms are a 3-piece rock and roll band from Athens, GA that are well known through out the area thanks to their loud and bizarre shows featuring everything from sex toys to strobe lights, but most importantly their grooving blend of Psychedelic music mixed with some old records and magazines you would find under your fathers bed.
They have went on to open up for acts such as Flat Duo Jets' guitarist Dexter Romweber in January 2009.
In the following months after that, the band purchased a black cargo van from a local Funeral Home / Mortuary service and hit the road.
About
The Humms were formed on February 3rd, 1959 in a small town in Tennessee. They had great success for many years as their singles rained down on the charts before Billboard and other charts had became bastardized with the saturated "music" that was to come many decades later. One night while on tour in Nebraska, they came across a male gypsy traveling down a long dirt road. His name was Z-Dog. He captured the boys with a spell by using a potion made of Dollar Store Gingerale and Evan Williams and for the next 22 years, The Humms would become prisoners that accompany Z-dog as his backing band, playing various carnivals, medicine shows and mushroom rallies.
It was in the eve of summer..the tour had stopped in the middle of the Arizona desert. At around 3am, the boys congregated amongst themselves to form a plan of escape. While Z-dog slept soundly in his trailor..The Humms used various black powders and peanut clippings to blast through their shackles. Of course this awoke Z-dog from his trance like slumber but they had bound his door shut by covering it with Z's own sign that read "Z-Dog and the Travlin' Gypsy Band! Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!..But don't rush!" in big red letters. The Humms knew they only had a matter of minutes before Z-dog realized he could very easily kick out the AC Head Unit, making his escape onto the propane tank below. Luckily, the lads had already disconnected the trailer hitch from Z's 1957 Edsel station wagon, which allowed the boys to push Z-dog's gypsy wagon over the edge of a cleft. Some say you can still hear the screams of Z-dog as his tailor went tumbling down, down, down into the dark crease in the earth. All thought he had surly perished until a mysterious person began releasing recordings under the name Z-dog and the Travlin' Gypsy Band..Some say it's a copy cat but we may never know.
Now, the Humms were free..but to do what? Any contact to the outside world had gone down into the darkness with Z-dog..including any food and water. It didn't look good for the Humms. Sadly after 1 week of being stranded in the desert, Cannibalism took over as the boys battled each other for their very own lives. Willie, the lead singer of the Humms, eventually prevailed as the winner in this twisted game of death for life by murdering the other 2 members with a combination of street fighting moves he had learned from his childhood in Chicago. Willie fed on the 2 corpses for almost 14 days when he came across an old factory building along an almost deserted highway. He took up there..making it his home. Although he had indeed found a home for himself, he was incredibly addicted to the taste of human flesh after having to eat his band members..so in order to get his "fix" on a weekly basis he had to find a way to lure humans out into the desert. He discovered quickly that this was easier said then done. He had noticed some traffic on the passing road that day..mainly just families traveling through..trying to make a short cut to Tucson. Then it came to him.... Ice Cream!.....If he could at least pose as an Ice Cream shack, he could have an endless supply of bodies..because..it's in the desert..Ice Cream..in the desert. That will sale.
He in fact decided to open up a stand out in front of the factory. He was able to make a fake shop by using old Frigidaire parts found in the back rooms of the factory. A little bit of time on the sign and business was popping. Families on vacation...road workers..road trippers..and run aways. Thanks to the road being all but deserted, there was never any rush of traffic, so Willie could do his deed before anyone knew what was going on. After a while, Willie began to miss what mattered most to him, his music. So in one of the back rooms he built a recording studio by using old reel to reel machines left over from the factory that had once mass produced them. He began recording under the name "The Ice Creams".....A name which he had taken from his fake profession. The Ice Creams lasted long enough to record 216 songs and those were seized by the local county sheriff's department and FBI after their long going investigation of missing persons reports had ended with Willie's capture. Willie was sentenced to death by decapitation. While serving time on Death Row, his recordings were passed from hand to hand before finally landing in the hands of a record label by the name of Gypsy Farm Recordings, who later went on to release 4 of those recordings as a free EP titled "My Friend Frank".
20 days before Willie was due to die, he managed to escape the prison, but only for a short time. He was found 3 weeks later on the outskirts of Lavonia, Georgia living with an unidentified woman who was later found to be pregnant with Willie's child. The infant, a boy, was born in September of 1988 by the name of Zeke Sayer. He grew up having a semi normal life in the ruins of Hartwell, GA, making friends from school and having knife fights in the backyard. His two most memorable childhood friends were Tyler-G and Bleech. They all had a passion for music and often would put on shows for the local towns people posing as Jose and the pussy cats. When Zeke turned 18 in the Fall of 2006, he learned the truth about his father and what his father had done. He was emotionally crushed and went into a deep depression of drugs, darkness and solitude. It wasn't until early 2008 that Zeke resurfaced as a quiet, psychotic 20 year old with the mind of an infant. He had made the decision to start a band and pick up where his father, Willie had left off. He made contact with Tyler-G and Bleech and purchased a black cargo van from the local Funeral home and hit the road.
