About
The Howlin' Thurstons is a guitar heavy instrumental garage/surf band with a sound described as "The Ventures as covered by The Ramones played on an old Wurlitzer with the volume set to eleven in a scene in a Tarantino film."
Since 1999, we have been performing our unique brand of rock & roll at various venues around the New York such as Southpaw and Lakeside Lounge. Reviewers have called our unique arrangements of instrumental rock standards "dangerously modern". Our high energy performances featuring the guitar-driven mayhem of original compositions such as Knucklewalk and Road Rage have won The Howlin' Thurstons a growing acclaim among downtown New York audiences and radio DJs from as far away as Australia, Canada, Scotland, and Brazil. Here in the U.S. our EPs have found their way into the regular rotation of such radio shows as Teenage Wasteland, with Bill Kelly, WFMU 91.1 in New York; Phil's Garage: Surfs Up! with Phil Dirt, KFJC 89.7 FM in Los Altos Hills, CA; and A Day at the Beach with Clint Beachwood, KCR 1620 AM in San Diego, CA.
