Q: How long have you been together as a band? Do you all write together or separately? oh, sorry, that is two questions?
A: 1. TGS started in February 2010 out of an earlier project comprised of Craig, Berto, Monty and a former guitar player. Berto played drums. Then he played a drum machine and he sang. It sucked. But it was (kind of) awesome (for us). We knew that we as musicians had potential and if we made some changes in the band, it could be actually truly awesome. 2. Craig's lyrics take shape as vocal Melodies when Berto chooses from pages of poetry and sings the best words along to bass lines. Keys lines are added thru a trial and development process by Monty and Craig. Drew works out drum riffs that he and Craig develop to the bass riffs and vice versa. Berto will listen in on a jam session between parts and we'll etch out hooks and verses together. 'Pilot songs' (as we call them) are furthered through hours of ProTools sessions and retracking at the SOCIO home studio. When we have a collection of those pilots we choose the best 6 and turn them into TGS songs. The rest are either discarded or kept in the idea vault, guarded for protection and kept in a secret location. :) The 6 best songs get worked on. We add parts and other times we take parts out.. Berto writes vocal harmonies. Craig writes more lyrics and some are discarded. Trumpet lines manifest through rehearsal and live performance. We work the songs until we all agree on it's complete awesomeness. Typically we will have recorded each song several times over in our 'PrePro' Process at Studio SOCIO before taking them to Forge Recording where we work with Ron DiSilvestro.
