THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE, Rodents of Unusual Size, The Divvys Oakland’s alt rock outfit The Girlfriend Experience crashed and burned in August of 2007. Dressed all in white, a departure from their usual all black attire, The Girlfriend Experience ripped through the psilocybin-enriched eardrums in attendance, amid psychedelic film projections and burlesque dancers. After an unscrupulous fan threw a mystery pill into the singer’s mouth, everyone’s recollections of the final show varies, but by all accounts, the entire burlesque troupe had been offended, and the following morning, The Girlfriend Experience imploded. 5 years later, on the wood anniversary of the band’s death, The Girlfriend Experience is back. Keeping punk scorcher “Gonorrhea,” epic stoner rocking “Coke Buddha,” the catchy hooker “Kiss, Kiss” and a few other choice cuts from their album “When in Rome…Do as the Lions” (recorded with Sylvia Massy (Tool, etc.)) in their set, the band is also whipping up new tunes for their live show. And live is where it’s at with The Girlfriend Experience, the Blue Star Ointment of bay area bands. (Indie/Alternative) Doors 9pm, $5
