Collectively described as a "t-shirt and jeans blend of pop, rock, soul, and honesty," the original members of The Freddie Long Band (affectionately known as "The FLB") hardly knew each other when they first starting playing together a little more than two years ago. Based out of the Baltimore/Washington area, these days the group members consider themselves a band of brothers with hundreds of performances throughout the Mid-Atlantic region now under their belts.
Their story began as such: Fresh out of Lebanon Valley College and looking to continue his career in music with a larger live arrangement, songwriter/performer Freddie Long began to audition musicians for a full band, finding some of the most talented players in his area. Despite being mere acquaintances from diverse musical backgrounds, The Freddie Long Band had found something special--they were already gigging at popular clubs and festivals and receiving many positive responses within the first few weeks of playing together.
The group has been turning the heads and ears of many--from folkies to metal-heads--ever since, charming listeners across the Mid-Atlantic with their own catchy and introspective original music. Along their busy touring schedule, The FLB has performed on commercial TV and radio, garnered a corporate promotional partnership, and has shared stages with many popular regional and national acts including Jo Dee Messina, Blue Oyster Cult, Jimmie's Chicken Shack and Scott Ambush (of Grammy-nominated group Spyro Gyra), among others.
They released their debut independent album, entitled 'Strangers and Friends,' in February of 2007, followed by heavy regional touring in support of the release. The album is a collection of 13 original songs written by Freddie Long, ranging from upbeat, high-energy pop/rock to acoustic ballads and including many fan favorites from the band's live shows. 'Strangers and Friends' has since been praised by critics and fans alike and has received positive reviews in both print and online industry publications. The album won Indie-Music.com's Top 25 releases of 2007 award, as well as Indie-Music.com's Top 25 MP3s of 2007 award for 'Blanket'. The Freddie Long Band was also nominated for three 2007 Washington Area Music Awards (Wammies).
In a very short time The Freddie Long Band has come a long way and made quite an impression throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. With the makings of an exciting future ahead, The FLB is currently touring with new members Mike Ball (drums) and Eric Brooks (saxophone, vocals) while beginning work on their next release.
