I’ve been thinking once again
where I’m bound opposed
to where I’ve been
won’t ya help me make
some sense of it
I held it in my hands
but it’s been long lost since

I’ve got something on my mind
Daddy told me that’s a bad sign
yes, I know it sometimes
helps me sing
but thinking never really did
a damned thing

so you think you
pruned the devil’s flame
but you know it’s hot enough to
burn your hands & heart again

every deed beneath the sun
yes, I know it’s all been said & done
if not for all these sinners
wouldn’t be such thing as saints
sweep ‘em out the door
& they come back again

it could be the reason why we’re here
something simple
something only little children hear

though they go by different names
blessed & wounded
it’s all the same thing
sun shines on the wicked while
it rains on the devout
today we walk the line
tomorrow turned around

you’ve got something on your mind
what ya have is what
you’ll leave behind
no, it may not be the thing you want
it sure is everything we got
