“Even if "Music High" is a story, real life ---- and genuine local music ---- is everywhere in the film. "Music High," screening at 10:05 a.m. Friday as part of the Oceanside International Film Festival, is based on the Punk Rock High School music club at El Camino High, a club of talented and diverse musicians who merged interests in different genres into a common goal of networking, learning and performance. Tom Voris, a teacher at the school, is club adviser, and is also the founder of the acclaimed local ska band the Fabulous Rudies, entertaining listeners worldwide for more than 15 years. "The idea for the film started a few years ago, when we talked about making a documentary," Voris said. "Nothing came of it, but we liked the idea of making a movie." “If you had to guess which San Diego band has played more Warped Tours, you would be wrong if you guessed Pepper (three times) or Unwritten Law (four). That honor would be split between New Found Glory and the Fabulous Rudies. Each band has played five Warped Tours. On August 17, Voris will have another distinction. That’s the day of the world premiere of Music High, a film he inspired. And as the movie’s music coordinator, he selected the 15 titles on the soundtrack.
