About

It's been a whirlwind couple of years for The Everyday People (The EDP). The Austin-based quartet whose soulful and melodic songs leave hooks resonating with audiences throughout the US. Formed in 2005 by Jeffrey David (vocals, guitar) and Chris York (bass), The EDP owe all of their early success to their organic, grassroots beginnings. While most musicians stargaze at the possibility of overnight success. The Everyday People understand exactly what it takes to get there.

Jeffrey David, moved to Austin in the summer of 2005, leaving his 9 to 5 sales job in Chicago to pursue musical “greatness” in the live music capitol of the world. Upon arrival, he began his search for band members that shared the same talent, determination and drive to achieve long-term success in the ever-gloomy music business. He identified his first target. Chris York, a local industry favorite bass player who had already experienced regional success with a previous band. Applying his cold calling “9to5” sales techniques, David attempted to involve Chris York.

“ I felt like I was courting a date for junior prom”, jokes David when asked about the topic

After several attempts to set up an audition, David's persistence coaxed York into a ten-minute audition, which took place in a parking garage.  After the macro made audition, York was convinced and The Everyday People was born, or at least the idea.

The Everyday People, named for the groups' diversity, come from four completely different walks of life. From what sounds like the beginning of a bad joke actually became the source of an original sound; what do you get when you cross a Jew, a Black man, a Mexican and an Irishman together on stage?  This is normally where one would insert the offensive punch line...

The formation of The EDP was deemed complete when the two connected with drummer Mitch Cheatham and guitarist Ady Hernandez. Cheatham, native to Broken Arrrow, Oklahoma,  had previously played with David in college. Although they were both with separate groups, Cheatham left quite the lasting impression.

“ A white hip-hop drummer who looked as refreshing as he sounded? I was hooked” commented York on his first impression.

The two had known of each other, however were both working with other projects at the time.
With a barrage of new songs and a dire need for studio time, The EDP met Ady Hernandez, Owner of The Manor Studios.
Ady, voted as one of Austin's best guitar players of 2002 by The Austin Chronicle, brought talent, experience, and charisma to The EDP. Grown up in the home of a Grammy award-winning musician has its influences.  Ady began recording music at the tender age of 15. By 19, Ady was nationally touring with his own band, Dahebegebees. A decade of touring brought Ady back to his roots in the studio as a producer and engineer. It wasn't until The EDP was halfway into recording  “ Catch Me”, that Hernandez decided to shelf his studio and join the band. Now David had all the elements needed to succeed.

Some would argue that we live in a world where today's pop music is spoon-fed to listeners by gatekeepers and major Labels, The EDP strive to deliver a refreshing sound to their audience; Blending the fundamental elements of their own individuality.

With vocals often compared to Johnny Lang and Marc Broussard and guitar lines to that of Santana, The EDP have chosen to manage, book, record, market and polish themselves using the resources that make them as diligent as they are diverse.

A simple yet catchy fusion of rock and soul allows The EDP to fit under many umbrellas and has been well received by an equally diverse crowd. Soaring acoustic guitar lines, clean powerful vocals and compelling lyrical arrangements bring their music to towering heights. This new breed of radio-ready rock has music fans everywhere beginning to take notice and The Everyday People seem to be leading the way
