About the Charity: The MusicianShip is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization that facilitates music lessons, experiences and opportunities. While our mission is not exclusive to any one particular group, we are focused on at-risk youth as they benefit most from positive outreach and music scholarship preparation. We are vetted and approved by the DC Public Schools as an official After-School service provider, allowing us to deliver free music instruction to students who may not otherwise have such opportunities. The MusicianShip instructors are comprised of accomplished musicians and music educators who serve as positive role-models for children. Unlike many other music schools, our students benefit from sessions led by nationally and internationally recognized performers, including Dennis Chambers, Orianthi and our own Gregory Grainger. The MusicianShip creates a healthy environment that fosters positive peer relationships, provides strong role models and builds self-esteem. Band performances instill in students a sense of pride and accomplishment, while contributing to the betterment of our communities. Your donations go further with The MusicianShip as our school is structured with minimal overhead to facilitate the most efficient and direct application of funds. The MusicianShip is are proud to announce that we will be offering programs this summer in the DC metropolitan area. Stay tuned for information on our marching band learn more about our marching band »camp! School sponsored music programs around the nation are underfunded and suffer from cut-backs in spite of research that demonstrates music's positive impact throughout life. Numerous studies show positive correlations between music and academic growth and yet, the cut-backs continue. The MusicianShip was created by Dianne Nichol Grainger (1984-2009 see Dianne’s Story learn more about Dianne Nichol Grainger »), Jeffery Tribble and Gregory Grainger to usher in fresh and effective solutions to curb the current music education drought. The MusicianShip is committed to leading our students on a life-changing musical journey. We hope that you will encourage people to hop on board The MusicianShip!
