Q: I love your "surfing song". However, even after listening 100 times I still do not understand everything. Are the lyrics available somewhere?

A: An ardent fan (we assume the ardent part...) asked the question: "I love your "surfing song". However, even after listening 100 times I still do not understand everything. Are the lyrics available somewhere?" Here's is Larry and Wayne's response: A hundred times!? Holy cow! We sure hope you wore sunscreen!! Indeed, we too have found that it is so hard to understand everything. Here are the words just in case it helps! L&W Surfing Song (CT (in the folk idiom) Opus 1, No. 1) We got up we got up So early in the morning. The grass and the flat, It was really really boring. Driving and driving Through the day and the night, About a million miles, Not a beach in sight. How did I know That surfing was for me? Ah you know when you know I knew it had to be. Sitting in the back seat Dreaming along – Annette Funicello And Frankie Avalon. Run in the water, Jump on the waves. How does Annette Get her hair to stay that way? Surfing all day ‘Till our legs get tired, Then singing all night By the beach bonfire. Finally at the beach With the smell of the sea And all the skimpy little fashions Saying “Look at me.” The waves were high And the ocean was there. I could almost hear “Surfing Safari” Floating in the air The woman at the shack she said “What’ll it be?” I said “Hotdogs and fries And surfing lessons please.” Riptide. Skin fried. Shark’s mouth open wide. Tongue tied, she sighed, Nicked my heart and Skinned my pride. Tough ride. No glide. Always on the water side. Could have cried. Would have died Lost my nerve. Goodbye. Well I tried and I tried And I very nearly died. In the Pope’s living room There’s just nowhere to hide. Went from “Would if I could” To “Wonder if I should”, And what I thought was so bad Might not be very good. I got stuff to do, I remember it now – Man overboard Off the starboard bow.
