Bio
Fusing punk, disco and a touch of ‘cock rock’, the Blow Wave’s unique sound has been described as punchy, rocky disco-camp ... full of raw attitude. The Blow Waves are; Vocals - Matt Doll, Guitars – Jamie Wave, Keyboards – Byron St John, Bass – John Pants, and Drums – Jezz Beat.
About
The Blow Waves first performed together at a music festival in South Australia in 2006 and they haven't stopped since. After playing at the famous Sydney Mardi Gras in 2008 and pounding the live circuit around the country, the band toured internationally in 2009 playing at the World Outgames in Copenhagen, the Manchester Pride Festival and a whole bunch of side shows in London and Berlin.
“Knife-edge guitars, psyched out keyboards and playful/dirty lyrics… their singer sports a bath robe, their bearded bassist is clad in leather daddy cap, while their keyboardist camps it up in a football jersey. Clearly, this quartet aren’t what you’d call shy and retiring.” - Inpress Magazine.
“The Blow Waves’ garish costumes, a bright clash between New Romantic and punk, ensure they’re hard to miss ... The band has a strong queer fan base, but their cock rock sound is by no means restricted to a particular demographic.” - Rip It Up Magazine
‘We’ve had girls strip off when we play Bikini Girls – there’s footage posted on YouTube – they come to every show’, say The Blow Waves. ‘Our live shows are more of a party for everyone to have a good time. We don’t want to be the only ones performing – we want the audience to get involved and dress up too – and we’ve had plenty of people up on stage!’
“The performance is a raunchy trashfest, and is epitomised by the band’s desire to have random underwear to be thrown at them while playing. Musically, every song has a simple, amazingly catchy hook, mostly in the form of sexy riffs that make the stripping of one’s clothes seam like the only way ... Thus it is fair to say that if one were to have a trashy party, one would desire The Blow Waves to provide the live entertainment.” - Inpress Magazine
