Snow falls quickly through the trees and on the path I tread
covering the proof of my trek through this land
100 pounds upon my back's not all that's weighing down my mind...
it's just another test of will
all my focus is on one step to the next
tryin to keep my mind from wandering to distant memories
night falls quickly in the woods, the drifts get deeper, still I walk on
my travel's far from done
by it's guiding hand my compass leads me through the shroud of night
checked against a tattered map, under a tarp covered red light
for when the dawn breaks I must be near the caves across the valley
where rest and shelter lie...

cross the stream 3 times and wade a hundred yards through icy waters to

muffled howling in the distance... my pursuers or just a coyote
keeps me going either way
when I'm sure I'm not being followed, I'll head for safety and plot my future
where the tables will be turned
for when the hunters become hunted they will have to learn the hard way
that I did not run in vain
