Steve J. Dawson was born in San Diego, raised in Hailey, Idaho, and now lives in Chicago. His songs are influenced by all 3 places - the California pop of the early 70's, the country music on the radio in Idaho, and the blues and R&B of Chicago.

Dawson is perhaps better known as the front man and co-leader of the critically-acclaimed Chicago band Dolly Varden.

In 2006 Undertow records released Dawson's first solo album, Sweet Is The Anchor, a collection of quiet, layered songs recorded in Steve's home studio. Critics noted Dawson's strength as both a songwriter and singer, combining elements of country and soul. He has just completed work on the follow-up, and expects to have it released very soon.
