Bio

Singer/Songwriter and performer Stephen Budd is based in Tucson, Arizona. He cut his teeth on local bands in Toledo, Ohio, where he grew up, played bass in Generra Pantera and the Border Patrol before starting another band, Burnt Sienna, prior to his move to Ann Arbor in 1995. Burnt Sienna played some opening slots with regional touring bands including Blue Rodeo, John Wesley Harding, Sponge, Over The Rhine, October Project, and for Australian singer Paul Kelly and others before his group disbanded. In addition, as a solo artist, Stephen opened for Mark Kozelak (Red House Painters) and Disappear Fear, even seeing Patti Smith in the audience one time in Ann Arbor as he walked off stage.(Wow!)

About

Singer/Songwriter out of Tucson, Arizona.  Has played many a show, more recently at Folk Festivals and Coffeehouses.  Before they stopped paying, Stephen performed at 14 different Borders Bookstores.  More recently Stephen has been finishing up recordings begun in Detroit and Toledo and Madison.  Some of these recordings included sessions with Ron Pangborn, drummer extraordinaire, in Detroit.

Stephen recently commented on those sessions and working with Ron... "We recorded in the basement studio in his house.  I drove up from Pittsburgh to record with him.  It was so cold outside we had to keep turning the heater off just before we pressed "record" so you wouldn't hear the furnace cracking away on the recordings.  He was a joy to work with.  He was so tight and in such tip-top shape that we would play through the song once and by the 2nd or third take, we had our performance and could move on to the next song. I was smiling from ear-to-ear because he made it so enjoyable for me".

Ron is known for his work with Was (Not Was), Matthew Sweet, Marshall Crenshaw, Thornetta Davis and others.  I met him when he was on tour as the drummer with Freedy Johnston."
