Bio
Steel Pennies is David Patton on banjo and vocals, Rob Clark on fiddle and vocals, Terry Skaggs on guitar, dobro, and vocals and Kathy Foster Patton on bass. Rob joined the band at the beginning of 2009 to bring his keen fiddling and rousing vocals to the mix. Dave, Kathy, and Rob met up with Terry at the 2009 Mid-Winter Bluegrass Festival and a new lineup was solidified with the addition of his wide ranging vocals and expert musicianship. Steel Pennies performs a mix of traditional bluegrass and original music. The band took its name from the 1943 steel penny, produced by the U.S. Mint to save copper during the Second World War. The rusty, lonesome, sound of the Steel Pennies harkens back to the heyday of bluegrass music.
