Q: What inspires a lot of your music, like what kind of emotions or events?

A: I'm sure every band has their own process. Staring Blind's typically works like this; Brandon (guitar) will come up with a rhythm and pass it to me. I can't really speak for his inspiration. I'm sure musical inspiration works a bit different than with lyrics. Any musical ideas have always just came to me, somewhat spontaneously. Even though we've never discussed this, I'm assuming it works the same for him. Lyrics however, can come from anywhere, at any time. While, over the years I've written countless poems, limericks, one-liners, and so on... I've often intended to use all or parts of them in future songs but since we're being completely honest, it's never happened that way. Every song, at least in Staring Blind's case, has inspired it's own lyrics based on wherever the music led me at the time. Most of the time I get a feel of how I'd like the melody to go the first time I listen to a new rhythm. The subject matter, will either be something that I've wanted to write about or something that spawns from however the song makes me feel. Sometimes it's just a word that pops into my head or a thought or emotion that the music invokes. Then there are times where I've spent weeks working on a piece that just never ends up feeling right. In those cases, the song may never see the stage or studio or, as in a few cases, I will set the whole project aside to work on others and upon returning find that I have a whole new idea. Those songs sometimes end up becoming one of our favorites & the original idea will be forgotten entirely. There's been several instance where I've come across rough drafts for songs that I had forgotten even existed.
