About

A new Faroese Award of Arts was 2008 given to Stanley Samuelsen because he is regarded  a very important faroese composer and musician- with international potential.

Stanley Samuelsen was born in a small village, Fuglafjord, in the Faroe Islands as the youngest of 12 children and grew up with his mother and some elder sisters and brothers, since his father died shortly after Stanley was born .

At the age of 12, Stanley got his first guitar from Iceland.  Listening to the Radio Luxembourg he tought himself to play and from the age of 14 he became a member of the local band Silly Boys and played at the dancehall every weekend. In 1970 Silly Boys won a competition as the most popular band in the Faroe Islands.

Stanley went to stay in Denmark in 1970, and he played in different bands thoughout the years. In 1980 Stanley Samuelsen (guitar) started playing for the danish tradeunions in a duo with Nis P. Jorgensen (piano, vokal). For many years this duo, called "Den Udødelige Duo" performed at congresshalls, schools and universities. They played for politicians and workers all over Denmark, Sweden and even in Jamaica.  In1992 the duo recieved the Danish LO Culture Price.

Stanley began touring as a singer- songwriter in the 90's and he has been travelling and performing many times in all Nordic and Baltic countries. Stanley has a huge repertoire and besides his own songs in faroese and danish  Stanley Samuelsen is amazingly good doing covers by Beatles, Eagles, Paul Simon, Clapton, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Moody Blues, Chris Hillman, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and many others.

Discography:  1999 Um eg kundi  Buy, 2005 sol og regn Buy, 2008 tídin rennur Buy, 2008 Trio acoustica  buy Mp3 CD Tutl.com.

It is obvious that Stanley is influenced by some of the well known musicians from the 60's but Stanleys childhood as well as  growing up in the rough but beautifull landscape of the Faroe Islands is a very big influence to his music, that is very sensitive.

Playing the guitar is Stanleys way of expressing his inner feelings, and every chord , every tiny tone is perfectly placed and shines like a jewel to the listeners. So natural and so fine that people often say they don..t need to understand the words when he performs in a language unknown. They say that Stanleys music touches emotions deep inside.
