The Elwins Ontario-based indie pop outfit The Elwins have garnered an impressive pile of attention and praise considering their relative youth. From performing alongside acts like Tokyo Police Club, Arkells and Sweet Thing or at festivals including SXSW, CMW, POP Montreal, and the Halifax Pop Explosion to being heralded an “act to watch” by tastemakers like Exclaim!, CBC Radio 3, and Torontoist.com, The Elwins have rapidly risen the rungs of the Canadian independent music scene – and all without a full-length offering to their name; however, that’s set to change with the release of their highly-anticipated long-player And I Thank You. The band was born in 2007 when vocalist/guitarist Matthew Sweeney and drummer Travis Stokl bonded in a high-school hallway over their mutual love of The Flaming Lips. The two began writing songs together under the new banner and shortly thereafter welcomed longtime friend Feurd Moore to the fold to handle keyboard and guitar duties. Midway through 2011, bassist Christopher Shannon signed on to cement the band’s current lineup, and since, they’ve seen their audience and, subsequently, the excitement surrounding their LP expand exponentially. SPEAK Speak had its beginnings with Jupiter-4, a band founded by high school friends Troupe Gammage, Jake Stewart, and Nick Hurt. The band became Speak when bassist Joey Delahoussaye joined the group in 2008.[1] In 2010 they won the Austin Music Award for Best New Band [2] and the following year won the award for Best Indie Group. They garnered attention in 2010, when they performed at the 2010 Austin City Limits Music Festival.[3] Their debut EP, Hear Here, was released in February 2010 and garnered positive reviews, with The A. V. Club giving the EP a B+ and the Austin Chronicle giving 4 stars out of 4 saying that Speak is "poised to change the musical landscape." [4][5] In 2011 Speak accompanied Tally Hall and Casey Shea across a national tour of the United States. Jukebox the Ghost The appeal of a modern, on the rise indie band like Jukebox the Ghost is simple: They write catchy songs. On top of that, they’re dynamic, skilled musicians. The band’s records are carefully structured, yet wildly diverse affairs. And the live show? Energetic, crowd-pleasing, cathartic. The Philly trio’s new album, produced by Peter Katis (Interpol, The National) and set for release this fall on Yep Roc, highlights all of these elements over 11 tracks, each one leaving its own unique sonic footprint. But constructing and arranging the songs to their full potential took years of preparation, both on the road and in all of the basements, houses, hotel rooms and studios where the songs were born. River Whyless We are a four-piece band formed in Boone, North Carolina in 2006. With one graduate of Appalachian State’s school of music and a classically trained violinist, we combine technical skill with the creative gifts of our co-songwriters, Ryan O’Keefe and Halli Anderson, to produce a sound we feel, we can call our own. Little Tybee “Little Tybee is something of a mini orchestra with its ever-evolving five to ten members all engaged in intricate musicianship. Their name comes from a tiny island off the coast of their native Georgia, where legend has it, an undetonated atomic bomb from the 1950s lies missing. They jokingly attribute the quirkiness of their debut album Building a Bomb to the long-term effects of eating radiation-drenched seafood, but it’s more likely they were just born that way” Lavinia Jones Wright, ASCAP Silas Durocher Born in 1985 in Austin, Texas, Silas Durocher is a composer, guitarist, songwriter, and singer who “understands that there are many mansions in the house of music and naturally partakes of all of them.” Bridging many styles, Silas focuses primarily on combining classical music with funk and rock n’ roll to create “music for the head, the heart, and the hips.” With this central idea, Silas’ music appears in many forms, including works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, rock bands, and solo performances.
