More About The Artist

In 2004, musicians Gilbert Alfaro (Vocals/Piano/Synth) and Eric Jackson (Trumpet/Organ), formed a soulful 70s rock alliance formerly known as 8Track Charade. As individuals, these members contributions defined the sound of such talented groups as Blueprint, Refuse to Fall, Japanic, and the Super Market All-Stars, but they had no notion of the kind of monster they would create by joining forces. Now with a new and improved lineup and name change, Spain Colored Orange is ready to rock your i-pod and redefine your perception of the independent music scene. It's not indie rock and it's not emo. It's full on beautiful. Taking more inspiration from Santana, Buena Vista Social Club, The Beatles, Hendrix, and other 60's and 70's greats - this band is poised to "...break on through to the other side..." - or get picked up by some A & R talent scout from any number of majors. It's not your typical Pavement, Superchunk, Jawbreaker, Fugazi, Sea & Cake, whatever-else-you-can-think to throw in style of "indie" influenced rock in any way at all... and it's not to say that fans of those bands won't dig it. It's to say that it is truly original in every sense of the word. If you're looking for something new that will blow you away, you've found it here. Take a listen and you'll find yourself incredibly surprised at the wonderfully creative and incredibly talented musicianship of each member of the band. While Gilbert Alfaro (singer/keyboardist) kicks out killer vocal hooks, it's more about how the vocals fit into the amazing music that fills up your earphones with beautifully and intricately organized rhythms & melodies. With the mixture of his keys and the drums, the bass riding perfectly underneath and holding everyone in place, the guitar to accent specific and perfectly chosen points, and one cannot overlook the trumpet in any sense (which is one of this band's greatest and most unique points); this trumpet which swells and bites at the perfect times. The songs are completely and perfectly arranged. They fill you up with emotion and excitement, and drop you where you want to be dropped. The ride is a beautiful one, and Spain Colored Orange with "Sneaky Like a Villain" has created it just for you. If you like Mogwai, The Flaming Lips, and any other band that can jam you into a groove and keep you there, you can feel the same kind of energy here - but it's more explosive and incredibly as intricate as Flaming Lips, while appealing to fans of almost any genre from 60's and 70's - and fans of any of the pioneers of the 80's, 90's, and 00's sounds. Produced and Engineered by Bill Racine (Flaming Lips, Mates of State and more). 2006 Houston Press Music Award winners for: Album of the year ( "Hopelessly incapable of Standing in the Way"), Local musicians of the year!, Best indie rock!, Best keyboardist! - You can bet they'll win all four awards again for this album! They'll probably sweep the entire vote and take a few more awards. This is an album that could do well on any major label, but we're lucky enough to have them call Lucid Records home for this one. Keep your eye on these guys... no doubt you'll be seeing them soon on Conan O'Brien, MTV, Fuse, TV, and all over the mainstream following this release and a move to a major in the next year or two.
