“Some artists spend months scouring the county and Craigslist to find the perfect fit for a frontman. But O.C. reggae-rock act Solution, which formed in late 2011, didn’t have to look any further than the solo acoustic guy opening for its headlining set at a local bar last year. When original vocalist bailed at the last minute, bassist Chris Dorame, guitarist Sean Jefferson and drummer Jeff Berger enlisted Nick Papageorge to fill in. “The promoter basically said that if the headlining band didn’t play, none of us would get paid,” Papageorge recalls during a recent phone interview. “We were like, ‘Woah, wait now, that’s crazy talk!’ I took their CD out to the car and learned a couple of jams, and we ended up busting out a 45-minute freestyle set. We started rehearsals together that next Tuesday.” Soon after that unusual trial-by-fire initiation, taking a mere two days for jamming in an Anaheim rehearsal space, Solution made its official debut at the Slidebar in DTF.”

“Typically the crowd funnels in more slowly for these events, but with Solution up first, the popular group had a large audience already forming around the tiny stage. An obvious local bar favorite, this rockin’ quartet got people moving – shuffling their feet, throwing hands high into the air and singing along to its blend of punk, reggae and metal. Yet the band pulled together that musical identity crisis and delivered a solid set that fans thoroughly enjoyed.”

“Reggae band Solution kicked the evening off with their Slightly Stoopid meets Sublime style. Their set flowed nicely, switching gears frequently between clean, up-strummed reggae grooves and crunchy punk guitar. Rewriting a page from the Pennywise handbook, the band performed a version of "Stand By Me," with a reggae twist. This may have been the most surreal moment of the evening.”

“The night started on a surprisingly high note thanks to Solution's well-executed stable of rasta pasta. Fronted by long-haired Jamaican ball-cap wearing front man Nick Papageorge, the band's metal-tinged twist on Steel Pulse reggae was an early crowd favorite. Considering the crowd that normally shows up to the Tiki Bar, the OCMAs really couldn't have picked a more perfect act for this showcase. We're not sure why, but finding a even a sliver of creativity in the over-saturated genre of white boy reggae is enough to win over some of OC's most jaded live music goers. In that regard, the soulful performance of this local four piece was definitely effective. Even the closing reggae cover of Ben E. King's "Stand By Me," which could've easily been a Jack Johnson style train wreck, was one of the most high energy songs of the night.”

Solution says they “appreciate many styles of music” and it from songs like “Take Me High,” it seems like they aren’t afraid to get a little dank and dirty with their guitar riffs.”
