More About The Artist

Who is Soapbox Hero?

In January of 2007, a band with a powerful message and mesmerizing music surfaced with a mission to re-invigorate the Church. Bringing back the passion for truth and confronting the modern day complacency that had captured our pulpits and pews. This message is that very message of Jesus who told us that this Gospel was a Skandalon to outsiders, meaning a stumbling block. This very message convicts the heart and stirs up turmoil in our very being, because it is light upon the darkness of man. It reveals our sin. It shows our lies. It uncovers our nakedness and shame before a perfect God.

We have been impaled with a message of tolerance. Tolerance to sin and hatred. We have allowed terms like “Carnal Christian" to become descriptive of our people. No-where in the Word of God does it say that there are any such things as carnal Christians. We are not of this world. We are Sojourners, Strangers and aliens to this world. And our entire purpose of being here is to find the lost sheep. To bring a message of hope to the hopeless. To feed the hungry; to clothe the naked and to mend the brokenhearted. When you show me that, then you will have shown me a Christian.

We are so concerned with altar calls that convert, when in fact no conversion has been made. Emotion never saved anyone. But Jesus never said that we were to make converts, but rather Disciples, (students). This means that we are the teachers; and as teachers, we need to study to show ourselves approved. I say to the pastors, reverends, and those who would call themselves teachers... Please step down if you will not take the time to study this Word of God with the greatest conviction for the souls that you say that you are saving. If you are not willing to give up wealth and even family for this Gospel, then stop teaching it. You have deceived the masses enough. Let those whose conviction for the souls is more than money, or numbers of seats filled, or popularity.

That is who Soapbox Hero is. We are the music empowered with truth and hours of research to examine that each song we present is in line with the Word of God and not just some flashy mantra that evokes some emotion. Even Jimi Hendrix understood this principal as he said, "music is spiritual, and with it I hypnotize my audience and make them believe whatever I tell them." Don't be fooled... even "Christian" music has that power and even worse. Be careful to examine the lyrics, because you will in turn believe what you are singing along with.

--------------------- The above was recently added to the following ---------------------

Soapbox Hero was started as a solo project by singer/songwriter, JB King, to bring his catalogue into the broadcast community.  Having been a worship leader in various churches, he drew lyrical inspiration from conversations with people about the pros and cons of the modern American Church and the Biblical context for what it ought to be.  Through intense studies of Scripture, King focused his music on what is acceptable to God (music, church operations, and Christian life) and how humanity can align with His will.

Musically he began to delve into art forms from the late 18th century and on through to contemporary music.  The creative drive during this prolific period was fueled by the verse, "Psa 33:3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts."

From there, King moved on to school at Central Christian College of the Bible as a Music/Theology major.  The formation of a touring band in and for that period in Missouri saw the addition of several new songs to King's catalogue.  Maturing in his songwriting style, his new motivation for creative expression came to him out of experiences and observations from sermons, classes, moving expeditions, dreams and insomnia.  This temporary band dissolved as students dispersed from the school.

After a transition back to California, and the need for a revival of a musical outlet, King set out to form a new band.  Nestled in the coastal hills of Santa Paula, he started a recording project that would eventually lead to the introduction of new members and their first album, "Vanity of Vanities."

As a Bible Rock band, we seek to show Christians and Non-Christians alike the truth and prophetic illustrations of the inerrant Word of God.  Through this education we hope to clarify misconceptions of the Word that much of the Church has perverted in which Christianity becomes a means of increasing popularity and fashioning Jesus as a fluffy conversational piece instead of the God that deserves and requires the true worship from His people.  King believes that "A people without education are confined to their lack of understanding," and the main drive of this band is to help bring clarity to a subject that seems so muddy to so many.
