Press
“Smack Thompson's deep understanding of Jazz and Funk grants them the gravitas to lithely go where most Rock bands fear to tread, through precision, freedom, and creativity. A fiercely positive and supporting community is growing up around Smack T and the Boulder bands with which they share fans, stages, and sometimes players. Less about showcasing individual skills, which are mad, they truly play together to create songs from diverse genres including classic Rock and Reggae, which they spin in the fractally flowing blender of their music. Guitarist Sky King bestows engaging vocals singing conscious, smart lyrics that are more danceably Pop than preachy. Effortlessly intense bass lines infuse the sound from the fleet fingers of Otis Lande (Rogue Sound, reviewed last month, and son of master jazz pianist and drummer Art Lande), joining the rock-steady beats of Joseph Havens and transcendent keyboard playing from Stephen Thurston. ”
