Simone Dinnerstein, piano FAURE Pavane BEETHOVEN Piano Concerto No. 2 MENDELSSOHN Symphony No. 3 “Scottish” This second weekend of SummerFest performances begins with the electricity and inventiveness of Simone Dinnerstein, the pianist whose albums have topped Billboard’s Classical Charts since her debut in 2007. Dinnerstein will be playing Beethoven’s piano concerto No. 2, filled with inspired phrases and themes which showcase the pianists’ talents in demanding passages – the composer himself played the first performance in 1795. The shimmering sound-scape of Faure’s Pavane begins the concert, reminding the listener of the delicate surroundings of Tahoe in summer, and the concert ends back in Scotland, where on his travels Mendelssohn found the inspiration for a new work, writing “I found today in the Chapel of Mary Queen of Scots the beginning of my Scottish Symphony.” He then wrote the first ten bars of music which begins the Symphony.

Simone Dinnerstein, piano J.S. Bach: Concerto in D minor Brahms: Serenade No. 1 Lauded for leading her listeners on a journey of discovery, Simone Dinnerstein has a close association with the music of Bach, bringing her wide recognition such as “ Listen to pianist Simone Dinnerstein's recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations - a timeless, meditative, utterly audacious solo debut" (‘O, The Oprah Magazine’). In this concert Dinnerstein joins the SummerFest Orchestra to bring a Bach Concerto to life in the intimate festival concert tent. The grand Brahms Serenade No.1, with its unusual instrumentation of a full quartet of horns in the orchestra, is really a Symphony expanded to include themes and variations, and brings this concert to a dramatic Romantic close.
