Young Audiences Celebrates 50 Years with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, with soprano Kathleen Battle YOUNG AUDIENCES OF WESTERN NEW YORK CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF SERVICE WITH THE BUFFALO PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRAInternationally renowned soprano Kathleen Battle performs Underground Railroad-related works; Young Audiences honors teaching artists for their commitment and passion Young Audiences of Western New York is delighted to announce a multi-faceted event in the continuing celebration of its 50th anniversary as the leading arts education organization in the region. Proceeds from the event will contribute to the Young Audiences 50th Anniversary Innovation Fund. As part of the year-long celebration and in acknowledgement of the founding of the regional affiliate by several members of the BPO in 1963, on Friday March 8, 2013 at 6:30 p.m., Young Audiences will join with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra in presenting this moving and historically relevant program.The BPO performance features world-class soprano Kathleen Battle. The pre-reception will showcase work by students produced during the arts education “Underground Railroad in Western New York” residencies. Young Audiences teaching artist Annette Daniels Taylor, Rodney Appleby and others, created and debuted these topical, multi-genre workshops in 2010 as part of Young Audience’s ongoing mission to connect a variety of artistic mediums with education.Starting with a pre-performance reception at Kleinhans Music Hall, Young Audiences will also honor several of its long-time teaching artists: dancer Cindy Hanna, musicians Jerry Raven and Reynold Scott, and poet Sherry Robbins. In addition, and in appreciation of his contribution as one of the founders of the Western New York affiliate of the nationally renowned Young Audiences, Laurence Trott, a former BPO flutist, will be honored. Guests will join orchestra patrons for a VIP reception in Henry’s after the concert.
