The Farm Bill: How Federal Agricultural Policy Affects Our Health.
Tuesday, January 29th, 2013, 7-8 pm, with Jared Cates, Carolina Farm Stewardship Association's Community Mobilizer.
Come learn about the widespread effects that the Farm Bill has on our personal and environmental wellbeing and how affects what you eat on daily basis. The Farm Bill is a body of legislation that sets federal agricultural policy and is renewed by Congress every four to six year. The 2008 Farm Bill included 15 titles, or sections, and ultimately set laws and funding that affect our nation’s nutrition, environmental health, emergency preparedness and community health. The bill expired on Sept 30, 2012 and the 2012 Farm Bill process has been a heavily contested issue.
Jared Cates is the Community Mobilizer for the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, a farmer-driven, membership-based non-profit that helps people in the Carolinas grow and eat local and organic foods.
