Tell us a little about yourself.
I am Aliya Marie, a singer, songwriter, and guitarist in Los Angeles. I was living in Seattle a couple of years ago, but packed up my car and moved down with my instruments crammed into the back seat. Besides music, I love coffee, David Lynch, hiking in the middle of nowhere (including the desert), improvising, and working with youth and their creative writing through 826LA. I dislike liver, long stretches of cloudy weather, and when fear stops you from doing anything. I’m also not the biggest fan of corduroy. What is one of your most memorable moments/experiences in your field?
When I played on a Southwest flight, 35,000 feet in the air. My band won Southwest Airline’s birthday jingle contest, and part of the prize was playing during a flight. But anytime anyone comes up to me and tells me they cried, or got chills, or that I’ve inspired them, those are the very best moments and why I do this.
