Broccoli Samurai broke ground as the brainchild of Cleveland natives Ryan “Bruce” Hodson and Chris Walker. In December 2009, bassist Steve Fade joined them, and in 2010 they set out their journey to make a footprint in the electronic jam scene. For nearly 2 years, the psychedelic improvisation of progressive electronica with a heavy drum and bass groove have thrilled audiences across the Midwest.
Their positive vibe, energetic stage presence, and undeniable talent have earned them praise among their peers. “Broccoli Samurai inject much-needed playfulness and humanity into the chill out genre. As they put it, “Arrive in good humor, proceed accordingly.”” - Scene Magazine The mind-altering, dub-stepping, trance-grooving, zone out or get off your ass and dance music breathes a breath of fresh air into the jamtronica scene.
Through their mutual love for beach music and new school reggae fusion, Roads(vocals) and Chevontez(guitar) established Tropidelic in 2007 along the banks of the Cuyahoga River in the murky town of Kent, Ohio. The group recruited veteran turntablist, Dj Mekadog, in 2008 and by later that year were drawing large numbers headlining venues and supporting nationals in Kent and nearby Akron, Ohio.
the time Tropidelic shifted their focus and location to Cleveland in 2009, the group had already established itself as a prominent name in the area by distributing over 5000 free copies of their first EP, “Rebirth of The Dope” on campuses and street corners throughout Ohio. Their diligent work ethic and devoted fan base earned them the title of Fox 8 Hotlist’s Best Band in 2009.
As they began to tour the Midwest and East in 2010, the group bolstered themselves as an area favorite through consistent performances at venues like House Of Blues, Mr. Smalls and Nelson Ledges Quarry Park, supporting acts like 311, Sublime w/Rome, Slightly Stoopid, Pepper, The Wailers, The Dirty Heads, Soja & many more. Their more edgy 2010 release, “Erie Vibes & Irie Tides” received airplay on many area radio stations including CBS-owned 92.3 FM.
In 2011, Tropidelic signed to Cleveland-based, Little Fish Records, who are best known for their work with American reggae pioneer, Carlos Jones. That same year the group was chosen from a large national pool to perform at Bamboozle in East Rutherford, NJ which boasts an annual draw of 50,000+ attendees.
Through several line-up changes and with the help of his established management team, Roads has carried on the name of the group with DJ Mekadog. Their current performance line-up includes Roads (vocals), Pags (bass), Grayson Latimore (drums) and Bobby (Guitar). Their first full length album, "All Heads Unite" drops November 15, 2012.
