One of the names that The Cherokee People called the French Broad River was ‘Agiqua’. Translated into English, Agiqua (pronounced Ah-geeg-wah) means Long Man. It is the third oldest river on Earth, and has flowed through Asheville and the ancient Appalachian Mountains for centuries. Today, the agricultural heritage, musical genius, glorious landscapes, environmental awareness and unique individuals that thrive on the Long Man are unlike any place else on the Planet.
This Fall, we celebrate the river that connects us all from 12pm until 8 pm on Saturday, October 13th. With family-friendly riverfront entertainment, rafting, local food trucks, a variety of artists, and two stages for music, Long Man Music and Fun, Fall Fest promises to be a great time for all who attend.
One hour rafting tours down the French Broad will be available and will feature musicians, jugglers, hula hoopers, and plenty of surprises waiting along the riverbanks. There will also be The Hop Kids Zone with face painters, performers, gem-mining, balloon animals, and plenty more to keep kids entertained. For the adults, there’s a Highland Brewery sponsored cornhole tournament with plenty of great prizes for the winners.
