FOR THE ROSES: A TRIBUTE TO JONI MITCHELL
at MISSISSIPPI PIZZA PUB
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 15th @9pm
An all-star lineup peppered with new voices pays homage to Joni's diverse oeuvre. Expect favorites and some unexpected Joni jazz numbers featuring a hot trio including Belinda Underwood on bass, Dan Haley on guitar and his long-time former drummer Randy Givens. Rachael Rice, known in Vermont and now Portland for producing sold-out shows (including the Pub's Cinnamon Girls, a Tribute to Neil Young) featuring both renowned and unsung women artists brings her curated lineup to the stage once again in September.
✦Rachael Rice is Vermont's own "Sweetheart of the Alt-Country Rodeo...and one seriously bad-ass vocalist" now in Portland with her partner Dan Haley bringing her big projects and bigger voice to the stage once again. She'll play a rowdy version of "Raised on Robbery." http://rachaelrice.com/
✦Mel Kubic is a ubiquitous Pacific NW singer-songwriter, pianist, saxophonist, producer and composer with a rare combination of sass and sensitivity who walks through walls of different genres. If she's feelin' gutsy she'll play keys as she sings "Circle Game. http://www.reverbnation.com/melkubik
✦Belinda Underwood is a Portland-based composer and multi-instrumentalist who sings original tales about life on Earth, while playing the baritone ukulele and keyboard bass pedals with her feet. At this show she will be playing bass and singing but will probably pluck a few strings of whatever is next to her just for effect. http://belindaunderwood.com/
✦Darka Dusty is a singer-songwriter, pianist and accordionist from Detroit. Now she and her Brit husband play around Portland in their genre-busting band "Mammoth in Space." Her version of "Both Sides Now" will not be forgotten. http://www.reverbnation.com/mammothinspace
✦Miriam German of Portland-based Miriam's Well is the Pacific Northwest’s torch bearer for honest, hard hitting rock and roll with a Joplin-Stones 70's vibe that brings some serious swagger. Mir will be playing guitar and singing "Woodstock" with some serious harmony backups from Dan Haley & Rachael Rice. http://miriamswellmusic.com/
✦Alex Nicole is a Portland-based singer-songwriter from Miami whose husky voice and acoustic guitar create an intimate, personal, and heartfelt listening experience. Experience Alex Nicole this time playing "People's Parties." http://www.reverbnation.com/alexnicolemusic
✦Renee Muzquiz lives and works in Portland as a gigging singer-songwriter, shredding electric guitar player, and assistant to the executive director of the Jeremy Wilson Foundation, a service organization dedicated to musicians. Renee will be offering her treatment on "Free Man in Paris" and "California." http://soundcloud.com/chicaylosgatos
✦Alexa Wiley is an irrepressible messenger of musical wisdom and a self-described "Poet of Empty Spaces" who plays with her band The Wilderness in and around Portland showcasing songs from her new album. Alexa will play "All I Want." http://alexawileymusic.com/
✦Laura Ivancie is seducing hearts and minds of fans in the Portland community with a blend of musical stylings, lyrics and vocal deliveries that are frequently breathtaking. Laura’s music is a mix of many genres, including elements of electronic, alternative, folk, rock, country, jazz, blues, and soul. http://lauraivancie.com/
✦Amaya Villazan is well-known to Portlanders for her time spent as a member of Artists Repertory Theatre's acting ensemble. Her poetic folk sound embodies a minimalist approach, a curiosity for the space between notes, and places a strong emphasis on rhythm and soul. http://www.reverbnation.com/amayavillazan
✦Karyn Ann Patridge has a voice that will beguile the most inattentive bar-goer. Her alto-soprano and expert guitar pickin' is showcased all over Portland's folk scene. Hear her sing "Let The Wind Carry Me." http://karynpatridgemusic.com/
✦Janet Julian is an adored singer-songwriter and visual artist from Portland and has been an active member of the East Side Sound since her band Petty Cash opened for the Dandy Warhols at the Satyricon back in the day. She'll be playing "A Case of You" on her beloved Gibson. http://janetjulian.com/
✦Dan Haley will be offering a mini-set of jazzy Joni numbers. He is best known in Portland as everyone's secret weapon of mass instrumentation and the brains behind the 90's dream band Ed & The Boats. He can play anything with a string, but he'll for sure be doing "You Turn Me On I'm A Radio" with Christian Groth of local band The Barkers fame. http://danhaleymusic.com/
✦Other talented performers offering their talent and support will be Annie Vergnetti (slide guitarist, singer-songwriter at http://www.annievergnetti.com/), Lauren Harkness (will sing "Blue"), Kerry Hallett (http://myspace.com/kerryhallett) and Rebecca Sanborn of Portland projects including The Blue Cranes and Swansea (http://soundcloud.com/swanseatheband).
