DRUNK AND HUNGRY
Hometown: SLC, UT Genre: No bullshit Country music.
Classic country covers and vibe.
In 1977, a five year old boy was driving down an Eastern Arkansas country road with his father, singing along to Tanya Tucker's "Delta Dawn." His dad pulled over at a little general store on the side of the road. The father went in and a few minutes later returned with two ice cold, glass bottled Coca Colas and a tube of Lance Spanish Peanuts. He handed one of the Cokes to his son. Ripping the plastic tube of peanuts open with his teeth, he tipped his boy's Coke bottle over and poured some peanuts into his drink, then did the same to his own. He started up the car and they continued down the road. The boy looked down at his cola, up at his father, and back down at his drink. "Daddy, why'd you do that?", he said, thinking that his father had surely lost it, ruining a perfectly good Coke like that. "The salty's good with the sweet, and it keeps you from getting too hungry while you're drinking. It's a long time till supper still."
That little boy grew up to play in a band called Drunk and Hungry. Now he puts peanuts in his beer to keep from getting too hungry while he's drinking. He plays country music from his childhood in a place very far away from Arkansas, and very close to the heart of country music.
But it's still a long time till supper.
