It was at an early age Alan realized the importance that music would play in his life. From his toddler years of listening to the records of the Spinners, Stevie Wonder, and Nancy Wilson with his father; to nodding his head to A Tribe Called Quest and Groove Theory in the early days of Hip Hop & Neo Soul; to discovering the true gems of the likes of Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, and Ella Fitzgerald; music was to be paramount in his life.

Alan began his music journey at Juilliard as part of their evening division; and then at New York University as a Master candidate in Vocal Performance. It was short time after this period that he met Rick Germanson, an NYC pianist who has built a solid career as a leader and side man to many of the industries' elites. Rick quickly became Alan's primary accompanist and collaborator, each bringing their own unique musical influences to create a sound that interjects soul, funk, and blues to a solid center of jazz. While Alan's first CD effort, Detour Ahead, cracked the top 60 on the jazz charts with elegant straight ahead Jazz Standards, you can be certain he will continue to push music boundary lines in the pursuit of good music. Come hear Alan and Rick as they joined with some of Toronto's very best musicians.
