Clemens non Papa Consort
Saturday, February 25th, 2012 at 7:30pm
Aminta e Fillide (Arresta in Passo) is a delightfully graceful work for two soprano soloists on the subject of a shepherd who eventually wins the love of a reluctant nymph.
First performed in Rome in 1707 and then in 1708 with two extra arias added by Handel, the work contains many genuine musical gems in its perfect evocation of a pastoral idyll.
The evening will be supplemented by two ravishing cantatas by Antonio Vivaldi: Nulla in Mundo Pax Sincera and In Furore Iustissimae Irae sung with equal beauty by sopranos Loretta Hopkins and Elise Lefay. Musical Director Marvin L. Perrott will lead the Clemens non Papa Consort.
