Organissimo formed in late 2000 as a vehicle for guitarist Joe Gloss and organist Jim Alfredson's growing stable of original songs. When they met at Michigan State University in the late 90s, the two quickly recognized a rare musical chemistry and began a search for a complimentary drummer. Randy Marsh fit the puzzle perfectly. In 2010, Detroit guitarist Ralph Tope joined the band after Joe's departure.
The focus of Organissimo is on original material and extending the tradition of the classic organ-based trio. Organissimo's sound is instantly identifiable yet constantly evolving, infusing elements of funk, gospel, blues, progressive rock, and Latin rhythms into a solid foundation of jazz. Shifting meters, deep grooves, melodic finesse and tight ensemble interplay are hallmarks of the Organissimo sound.
Glenn Brown formed fusion bands with Bill Laswell in the mid 70s., and has been spotted recently warping the galaxy with live bands such as: Airborne Or Aquatic?, "Intergalactic Spiral" & "EXP" (the most recent incarnation)., They create a diverse style that has been said to often have similarities to "Weather Report", "Herbie Hancock", "Pink Floyd", "Jimi Hendrix".
Grand Rapids-based jam/fusion band, Glean Infusion, will open the night. Glean Infusion was formed in 2007 as a collective musical experience intended to encompass and celebrate the diversity of the band member's influences. The high-energy collective truly embodies what it means to be a "band", finding risk taking, improvising and spontaneous communication to be the keystones of their original, raw sound.
