World Jazz Flutist Elsa Nilsson Plays Nublu on July 6th at 9pm.
Performs in Support of “Already There Yet” LP Due Fall 2013
Flutist and composer Elsa Nilsson will bring her “absolutely gorgeous” (KOCR, Seattle) interpretation of world jazz to New York’s Nublu (62 Avenue C between 4/5th street, East Village, NYC, NY 10009) on Saturday, July 6th at 9pm. Combining the rich heritage of her Swedish homeland with jazz and musical influences from around the world, Nilsson and her quartet will showcase songs from the upcoming Fall release, “Already There Yet”.
The hour-long concert will take the listener on a journey through sounds from Brazil, Cuba, Spain, Turkey and the Baltic countries, creating a holistic view of where music and her own sensibilities originate. The jazz inspired harmonies, driving Sambas and danceable time signatures from the Balkans create an unforgettable sound held together by the band’s fine musicianship, original compositions and arrangements.
Each member of the culturally diverse band brings his or her own flavor to the music, creating a cohesive thread in a cross cultural music exchange that holds jazz at its core. With Nilsson leading on flute, the band also features guitarist Brad Shepik (Seattle); bassist Yuka Tadano (Tokyo); and drummer Cody Rahn (San Francisco).
“Elsa has a beautiful conception of music.” -Chris Potter, renowned jazz saxophonist
“Elsa's sound is strong and she is expanding horizons as a flutist.” Jovino Santos Neto, Grammy nominated composer
