Honor Thy Country Concert Series at Sportsmens to Support Local Veterans
The Sportsmens Tavern is more than just a live music venue specializing in country and Americana – it’s a veteran-owned business, which with a new monthly concert series beginning the day after Christmas is teaming with The Good Neighborhood and Genesee Beer to showcase many of its mainstay performers while supporting Honor Flight Buffalo, a volunteer-driven effort to fly the hundreds of World War II veterans living in Western New York to visit the memorials made in their honor in our national’s capital.
The Honor Thy Country concert series kicks off Wednesday, December 26th, 6pm, with a special set from esteemed Sportsmens house band the Twang Gang – normally a Tuesday night tradition, the band and bar are off on Christmas but will reconvene the next night and welcome guests from among the upcoming performers in the series, including Joelle Labert of Flatbed, Buck Quigley of the Steam Donkeys, Kate Panfil and Andrew J. Reimers of the Country-Punk Extravaganza, and Tommy Brunett. Honor Flight Buffalo will receive half of the $5 cover as well as proceeds from a raffle held at each installment, with each night offering a Genesee draft special.
The series continues into 2013 with a slew of Sportsmens favorites, each with their own country/Americana approaches – Leroy Townes and the Lonestars on Thursday, January 10th, 7pm;
Flatbed (5:30) and Stone Country (9:30) on Friday, February 22nd; the Steam Donkeys and Outlyers on Saturday, March 16th; and Tommy Brunett and the Andrew J. Reimers Country-Punk Extravaganza on Friday, April 12th.
“Honor Thy Country connects Good Neighbors from different backgrounds with a common goal – giving our veterans, especially those who served in World War II, the well-earned chance to stand before the memorials made in their honor,” said The Good Neighborhood founder Seamus Gallivan. “From Sportsmens owner and proud Marine Dwane Hall, to the good folks at Genesee Beer, to these great bands, we are born and brewed in Western New York and grateful for the service and sacrifice of the veterans who are our neighbors, and we’re exercising our freedom to have a boatload of fun while raising funds for their flights.”
