Bio

Sheila Nicholls has a battery-acid wit, a fierce fuck-off rebellious streak and a drop-dead gorgeous mug -- which is to say she‘s a hell of a dame. But the singer-songwriter-pianist’s most appealing attribute is her deep intelligence. She proceeds thoughtfully, questioning her motivations, mapping out her goals. And then, when everything has been carefully laid out, she executes a perfect swan dive off a cliff, 100 feet into the waters of uncertainty.

About

English singer/songwriter Sheila Nicholls first attracted attention in the early '90s, when she performed with the New York City-based group Sheila Nicholls and the Splendid Frock. After a few years with the band she moved to L.A. to pursue a solo career and start her own record label, Essex Girl Records. In 1999, her solo debut Brief Strop was co-released by Essex Girl and Hollywood Records, with whom Nicholls signed a distribution deal. Songs such as "Eiderdown" down and "Fallen For You" were favorites among college radio during spring 2000. "Fallen For You" also found its way onto the Hi Fidelity movie soundtrack. She toured extensively with the album, including several gigs alongside k.d. lang.

A year later, she hooked up with legendary producer, Glen Ballard, for her second album. "Wake", which was issued in May 2002. It found a more introspective and literate Nicholls comfortable in her own skin. The album's first single, "Faith," co-written with Ballard, received ample radio play and reached the Top 40 on the pop charts.

A new Cd, "Songs From the Bardo", is done, and will be released in early summer 2009.
