Sebastian Rivas is a French-Argentinian composer born in 1975. He began his musical studies by learning the saxophone and oriented for some years by rock music, jazz and improvised music. Later he started studying composition at the Faculty of Music of the Universidad Catolica de Buenos Aires with Gerardo Gandhini among others. In 1997 he went to Paris, where he gets a First Prize in Music Analysis at the Boulogne-Billancourt Conservatory, while studying composition with Sergio Ortega and conducting. In 2000 he met Ivan Fedele who invited him to his composition department at the Strasbourg Conservatory from which he will graduate with honours in 2003. In 2003 and 2004 he was twice laureate of the IRCAM reading panel, for the one-month and for the one-year composition and computer music programs, and began his research concerning live electronics and multimedia. He also participated to many workshops thanks to grants, working with some of the greatest composers (Klaus Huber, Jonathan Harvey, Philippe Manoury, Toshio Hosokawa, Brian Ferneyhough, Michael Jarrel, etc) His music is being played by some of the best musicians in Europe and Latin America (Ensemble Intercontemporain, Quatuor Danel, Les Jeunes Solistes, Black Jackets Company, Dimitri Vassilakis, etc) during festivals (Musica Strasbourg, Avignon Festival, Cislago-Milan, Brussels Young Music, Museo Reina Sofia-Madrid, Ircam Season etc) He has numerous commissions from the french governement for chamber music, with or without electronics, symphonic music, and tape music. He collaborates with artists of different disciplines, such as Dance, Video, Theatre, etc. He is actually Professor Coordinator of the Sound Creation & Computer Music Departement of the Conservatory of Chatenay- Hauts de Bièvre.Want to check the Myspace Site? click here -> www.myspace.com/sebastienrivas
