About
Anthony Colom, aka Seamore Funk, has become something like an internet legend. After uploading a collection of songs to to MP3.Com in 1999, Seamore Funk's tracks became an instant success. His song SexyAsUwannaBe held the number 1 spot on MP3.Com's R&B chart for 8 months, and remained in the top 5 for 18 consecutive months.
Colom controlled the number 1 and number 2 spots on the R&B chart for 6 months with "When You're Not Around"(written and produced by Colom and performed by the artist Janet J.), and SexyAsUwannaBe beating out such major artists as Dru Hill and Macy Gray.
Colom had no less than 10 songs charting in the top 40 each of the 18 months that he was a member of the MP3.Com community. He once had 25 songs in the top 100. Seamore Funk even hit number 1 on the Dirty South Rap Charts (with Green Eggs and Ham) beating out a very popular Master P. and a host of other southern artists.
His songs have often been mistaken for Prince and labeled and shared on the internet under Prince's name. "I was influenced by Prince's sound. I was also influenced by a lot of the people that influenced him; like James Brown, Al Green, Jimi Hendrix, Parliament-Funkadelic, The Ohio Players, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Sly and The Family Stone. The Bar-Kays have also had a huge impact on my sound," says Colom.
While on MP3.Com Colom used psuedonyms like: Seamore Funk, The Artist Formerly Known As ?, Mr. Funk, and The Funky 1. His music was downloaded more than 1 million times, and his cds were sold to fans in almost every U.S. city, England, France, Belgium, Japan, China, Sweden, Germany, and a host of other countries.
To this day, his music is still discussed on such Prince fan sites as housequake.com and prince.org
Anthony started in music as a teenager in 1983 as a member of a local R&B band called Conspiracy. His recording of his own music began in 1988. He has written, produced, and/or recorded over 600 songs.
Colom is also the owner and publisher of The New Power Magazine. The New Power is a southern-based hip-hop / r&b magazine distributing 25,000 copies bi-monthly to various cities throughout 12 states.
This is the first mention ever of Anthony Colom and Seamore Funk being the same person. From reading some of the internet blogs over the years, many have wondered about the man behind this music. WELL NOW U KNOW !
